Hi all,

I'm new here and I am new in firerams in general. I am interested in purchasing the Saig .223 rifle but I want to know with certainty whether these rifles are legal in this state. I don't intend to do ANY modifications with one. I just want to own one because I like the build, the durability, and the price! I would be happy to take it out once every 6 months just for fun.

Thanks.

I should add that I am concerned because I see that many gun dealers across the U.S. state that they won's ship to CA. Does this mean that the Saiga .223 rifles are illegal in this state or that the dealers simply don't care to deal with the hassle of CA laws?

They are definitely legal here in CA. I suggest you call a local dealer and ask them if they have them or can get them.

you should get the the new saiga 5.45, ammo is much cheaper than .223

Where do you live so we can possibly refer you to a local shop that carries them,

RAA Saigas are legal. Alot of dealers in Kalifornia are afraid of anything that comes from Russia and resembles in the slightest an AK. I have one in 223 and enjoy it. My only complaint is the plastic furniture on it. Just find a local dealer that isn't afraid and enjoy.

I found one at River City Gun Exchange in Sacramento. They are asking$409.95 for the .223, 16" long barrel in all black. Supposedly it's their "sale price". Is that a good price for this rifle? I saw that the newer batch of Ruger mini-14's were going for $780 or thereabouts, and they were out of the Kel-Tec rifles. The latter two rifles I wanted to compare (All the AR variants were just way more than what I wanted to spend and have the gun for). I was really impressed with how light the Saiga was. I handled the 308 and 7.62, but they seemed bigger and bulkier than what I am looking for (again, just mainly for some fun shooting with my buds every so often and one that I won't have to worry about the care).

So, I'm thinking about it for a couple of days before I buy.

Anywhere else in northern California, preferrably in the Sacramento Valley (or central valley) and Bay Area where these rifles may be found?

Thanks, y'all! :)

Where are you buying 5.45? Does anyone local sell this caliber?

If your only gonna shoot the thing every 6 months are you able to store large amounts of ammo? If not get the 223, if yes than get the 5.45, buy 10,000 rounds and you'll be set for the rest of your life. Me, i'll burn through that in 2 weeks.

And when the Commies at the State Capitol make it illegal to buy ammo online/mail order ... then what?

Stick with the .223.

I've seen It at my gunshop. You can easily buy thousands of rounds of 5.45x39(non-corrossive too) wihout hurting you're wallet.

That's a good price for a new one. They are going used on this site for around $400. I'd take it!

I agree $400 new is about as good as you can get.

$400 is good considering transfer fees for guns bought online. I've seen Saigas for $350 but you have to pay for shipping $20 and for transfer $75. I'd just buy the one on the rack.

This.

$400 local is good.

You will be paying tax up-front, too, though.
