Ok guys, few questions about AR and AKs rifles in CA.
I have owned and shot handguns for many years but never a rifle so please easy on me.
How are the ARs (also called M4s?) and AKs rifle subject to restrictions in CA?
I heard stories that mags have to be fixed (!!!) and other restrictions for Ca market? What are those restrictions? What is the CA button fix that people refer to?
Are people going around laws with mag rebuild kits like it's done with handguns?
Thanks in advance, I may consider buying one in the future but want
to understand first.

Either they must have a 10 round fixed magazine, or no "evil" features (see flowchart.

The button replaces the original mag lock so you cant use your finger to detach the mag, instead you must use a tool such as a bullet.

Yes basically the same deal as far as possession. But you can only use hi cap mags in rifles with no "evil" features.

Thanks in advance, I may consider buying one in the future but want

Just a quick rundown.

Yes welcome. Read lots, and it will be clear.

And come on SJGunGuy24. Pistols can do quite well in the hands of an experienced shooter at far greater than 50 yards.

yes it is physically possible to hit a target at that distance with a pistol....but of course what are your chances? and what is the energy on target?

I'm sure with alot of practice, you could get used to whatever holder you would need for that distance....

what is the drop of 40 s&W at 230 yards?

According to this:
http://www.hornady.com/ballistics/ballistics_calculator.php

about 33 inches of drop with 100 yard '0' , and still 330 ft/lbs force at 200 yards.

I wouldn't want to get hit with it that's for sure, and impressed it would retain that much force at that distance (more than half that at the muzzle).

BTW the BC for the 180gr .40 S&W is .164
