I was reading that the USG model is single action with the external safety but I emailed a company regarding the gun for sale and they stated it was DAO. Are there USG models with external safeties that are DAO? Please only respond if you are certain. Thanks in advance.

http://www.tacticalgunarmory.com/FN_Herstal_Five_seveN_Black_5_7MMx28MM_USG_4_8_p/fn3868929120.htm

the sales person I talked to told me they are all double action and that he is not aware of any that are single action. Its not April 1st yet is it?

send those guys the link...ask them if they still think it's DAO.

I'm still a noob, but that's what FNH says. ;)

As I understand it the DAO variants where only available in small numbers when the 5-7 first came out. That they no longer make this variant anymore. They were not available here in CA unless you were LEO since that model was never on the list.

Those sites you showed for sale are wrong look at the pictures. They have the manual safety by the trigger guard. The DAO does not have a safety at all.

When I first read about the gun I thought it was striker fired, hell some people still think that since they haven't read enough or field stripped one.

It's SA only with a internally shrouded hammer, basically like a 1911 that you can't manually decock or recock. I saw a guy say it was like a Glock, that you have to rack the slide to re-engage the striker when he should have said recock the hammer. The 5-7 was intended to be carried cocked and locked. What throws people off is you can't see the hammer.

FN Five-seveN is in several different models.

The Tactical is the first model, and was DAO and only available for LEO/MIL purchase, with some of them leaking out to the public.

The IOM was the next model, and single-action only. It was discontinued in 2004 or early 2005.

The USG is the current model and is single-action only. There are some other small differences, like the texturing, magazine release button, trigger guard, and safety.

Both the IOM and USG are CA-approved.

I'd really like to hear a "range report" once you run a few rounds through it. I'm really thinking about getting one...
