I'm in Norcal (Bay Area) and i'm looking for a place that has a variety of safes in stock. i'm looking for something under $1K and should hold around 10-15 long guns.
I hope that helps. thanks.

Start looking at Craigslist. Sometimes you find the best deals there.

Jesus Christ....the prices of safes....
I'd rather buy another AR and keep it in the rafters.

Then after the ban, and we cant buy AR's no more, then I'll start buying safes.

Canyon Sports has a surprising variety in stock and on the showroom floor. They're in Martinez.

http://sturdysafe.com/ is a "local" manufacturer out of Fresno (sells direct)- give them a call. Alyssa knows who Calguns is.

+1 for Liberty safes. They're actually delivering and installing mine right now.

Find a 'Friends of the NRA' dinner and attend.

The dinner we just had in Lemoore gave away 2 safes, one had guns in it already.

Calguns should sponsor a Friends of NRA dinner. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Blue, please tell us that the safe is not in the Master bedroom. I'm thinking its not because there is no lamp on the 'safe' nightstand. My wife thinks its an extra bedroom.
Which is it? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hmmm, get rid of our king size bed and have the wife sleep in the spare bedroom... Dunno if that would go over to good.

you have to do some reading on the definition of safe vs. residential secured containers. yes, the latter comes in big boxes too. there's a good thread in the safe portion on what is a safe vs. rsc. if it doesn't matter to you, then any of the ones posted above will fit your bill fine. :)

Excellent point. The very best you can hope for is a safe that is difficult (not impossible) to breach by a professional thief, and is fire-rated at a high enough level to protect the contents until the local FD can put the fire out. These safes cost a LOT.

The other end of the scale is a safe that is easy to breach, and is not fire rated at all. These safes are bargain priced, and weigh a lot less.

The cost of your safe will depend on where in this continuum your safe resides. Once you have figured out what fire rating & theft resistance rating you can live with, you can really begin shopping for price.

Many sellers don't want to talk about fire ratings & theft resistance; that's an easy screen for figuring out who to NOT talk to.

Also, don't forget to ask about the delivered price, unless you have a few friends with strong backs and weak minds :)

I searched for nearly 18 months before buying my Liberty safe a few years ago. I went to every place that sells safes in my business travels and after all of that I bought mine at the state fair. It was a floor model and I had to wait for he fair to be over before delivery but the deal was too good to pass up. If you can wait until the fair this year you may score the deal you want there.
