if you are gonna buy good 1911 mags then go with either Wilsons 47D's or Chip Mccormicks power mags. Both are great and you will never have problems. I go with Chips power mags cuz they are about 14 bucks cheaper!

I also have heard that Tripp is top of the line.
I'm going to order a few of their Upgrade kits to try

I am not a fan of the Wilsons 47D's. I like the Tripp mags and kits a lot.

Tripp magazines are top notch and reports of the new Wilson ETMs are excellent as well. Wilson 47Ds are good magazines, but they have a long reputation for having somewhat fragile springs and the plastic followers will wear on the ledge that activates the slide stop so some day they won't activate the slide stop when the wear gets large enough. If you stay on top of spring and follower maintenance, they are good magazines. Chip McCormick Power Mags also have an excellent reputation. I've had good results over many years and high round counts with all of them with the Tripps, Power Mags, and Wilson 47Ds. One thing I did with the 47Ds and Power Mags was replace the spring and follower with the Tripp spring and follower upgrade kits. With the Power Mags, I had one 1911 that didn't like them. The slide stop would ride over the follower ledge and get wegded under the follower, preventing ejection, so you would have to manually strip the magazine out of the gun. The Tripp follower fixed that problem.

I much prefer Tripp to Wilson - follower has steel skirt, rather than plastic, which can wear down.

Checkmate makes excellent mags (they are OEM for Colt) and are much better priced than any of the others mentioned in original post. The Checkmate seven rounders with the new follower design are some of the best mags I've ever used. They also make eight rounders, although I don't have any.

Wilson 47D with Tripp mag upgrade (new follower and spring) or Tripp Cobra magazines.

Wilson 47D with Tripp mag upgrade (new follower and spring) or Tripp Cobra magazines.

That's the bulk of mine with a few Kings tossed in there for good measure.

I like the 47Ds but I prefer to use my KimPro Tac mags.

The KimPro Tac mags are awesome! Teflon-coated metal follower and spring. Feed 100% of the time and you CANNOT beat the price at $17 each with replaceable bumper pads.

Even would new guts (wilson follower and spring), each KimPro mag comes out cheaper than a brand new Wilson.

I love the Wilson ETM mags. The wide base pad is more comfortable and useful when doing drills and reloads.

I have both the 47d's and the ETM, while both have been flawless I prefer the ETM. I like the baseplate. Mainly cosmetics but looks better to me.

I've never had any jams or feeding malfunctions with tripp mags. The only problem with them is sometimes I slam the 10 round mag into the magwell and the plastic part in the front of the mag separates from the metal body and allows the mag to to in the magwell too far.

I've used a lot of brands and while I don't know if there is a best brand I like Chip McCormick PowerMags in my steel framed pistols. But for an aluminum framed pistol you need anti-tilt followers. In my opinion Wilson's design is excellent but their springs are too wimpy. I'm experimenting with Checkmate mags now and in my opinion they have a better follower than the PowerMag and better springs than Wilsons.

What's wrong with my factory springfields? I've never had a reason to buy or use anything other than my factory springers.

There is a really well researched and well written article comparing various 1911 mags. Reading it through opened my eyes quite a bit.

not mentioned yet, I have two MecGars that won't quit.

Also, a shooting pard goes with Novaks exclusively, claims they've never let him down.

If you mean Mec-Gars, they are often used as stock magazines by a number of manufacturers. My SiG P226 came with three Mec-Gar made/marked mags as OEM.

CMC are also used by a number of makers as OEM.

Wilson 47d and Tripp are the only fullsize 1911 mags I use now. In my compacts, I only use Wilson 47ox.

I've been using the 47D's for years, but one of my mates uses the Mecgar's and swears by 'em - much less expensive than the Wilson's.

so i went to turners and saw and felt the McCormick's power mags as well as the Wilson Combat 1911 mags and i gotta say they both seem like good options but i do think the Wilson Combat are much better quality. i love the feel of them and the follower that doesn't bind up like the factory ones.. the McCormick's followers are almost like the factory SA mags from what i saw and felt. the McCormick's were about $22.xx plus tax and the Wilson Combat were almost $8-$10 more from what I remember.
