So I requested a "Notify me when in stock" after S&W Announced the PC Slides will be released. Found it for $358 ($371 shipped).

Short story shorter I got the email and ordered one promptly then put a link up on Calguns for the remaining and they were sold out by the afternoon. SO i'm hoping they went to Calgunners.

So it came in today and I am stoked, Better than I imagined. Only thing that it didn't come with was a guide rod and spring which is fine, I just switched mine over.

I have a Talon wrap on so I wasn't able to put the PC backs on but it looks and feels great. Going to the range in the morning and now I need to get an RMR. I was surprised to see that it came MOS already with the mounting plates!!

So here's the pics:

So that's a standard m&p frame that takes a longer competition slide? Very nice. Great price too if that included a barrel.

I've heard the new 2.0s make the first gens obsolete. I get to test a gen 1 with apex trigger the other day and it's like a mouse click. I was very impressed. I have a distinct feeling you will enjoy that firearm immensely.

Yes sir, barrel, slide, sights .. the whole assembly except guide rod. Just swap the guide rod & slide it on.

First picture is the 4.25" slide I owned, the rest afterward are the PC 5" slide. I'll be able to give a side by side tmrw at the range.

Seriously nice upgrade. Should be like a laser. I talked my dad into a 9mm standard version before they fell off the roster. Was shocked how there was zero muzzle rise on that pistol and could easily track the sights on rapid fire shots. Apex triggers make a world of difference even still

Looking at the 5th picture, is that an aftermarket barrel or was that the supplied OE barrel?

And I didn't realize PC slides came w the rmr cutouts. Now I must find one in 9.

The long slide is the performance center barrel (mounted on the gun) the 4.25 I have an apex match grade in (slide by its self)

What is the S&W sku number? Is it 11550?

I presume the only difference between the mag safety vs. no mag safety version is the warning printed on the side?

I got the mag safety version as mine has one but I assume you are correct. I don't see how the mag safety would have anything to do with the slide. I wouldn't want any warning on my slide anyways.

I'm sure more will come in. I was lucky for sure, the only ones that came in stock were the exact ones I wanted and there weren't many. Possibly 5 or less. I was driving and got the notification so I pulled over and ordered from my phone to make sure I got one.

Sorry bro, the website is acting wierd now when I go there. I can't seem to find the 9mm ported slide ...Only 40. And when I look at my transaction it only gives me an order number. No SKU. I'll check the box when I get home and see.

Range report:

So wentto the range, loaded up four magazines. Shot two with the 4.25" then switched to 5" ported. All I get was light primer strikes. I was pissed. So I bought some blazer brass as I was using Winchester white box. Blazers struck a few magazines worth but started acting up again right afterward.

So I stripped the slide down and compared the striker assemblies. They looked identical. So I swapped them and boom no problems.

So called S&W they sent me a new striker assembly for free.

In regards the slide, A+ unbelievable; sight radius to reacquisitition of target, felt recoil, lack of muzzle flip. All of it was great.

I was shooting the center out of the target at 7 & 15 yards. Took me a bit to get used to the suppressor height sights. I prefer night sights but they really aren't bad at all.

I should sell my apexd 4.25" slide with tfx sights and buy an RMR. If anyone is interested pm me.

Recently mounted a Vortex Viper on a CORE 5" Pro. Man, it's perfect.Small and proportional, rugged(I know cuz I dropped the friggin pistol while drifting rear sight),and it co-witnesses nicely. Future of pistol sights, at least for us old guys.

Thanks OP! Didn't know these were available till this thread. Just got notification from grabagun tonight and placed my order:) I've been on the hunt for a 9mm 5" slide for a few years so I'm super stoked to finally get it. Is the performance center striker plunger similar to apexs? Also, what's the difference between the performance center and core?

Great question, if you have an apex fss installed like I did you will want to swap the USB out for the apex USB. I kept getting light primer strikes every fifth round or so.

The performance center is just the custom shop build, core is ported and optic ready custom shop build. The machining was impeccable on mine.

edc
05-24-2017, 10:17 AM
Thats weird that your getting light primer strikes from the striker block. I wonder if the striker is being released earlier and its interfering with the plunger? I have the duty kit so hopefully wont have the same issue.

Check out this video about the performance center m&p:

Not sure about why the USB was causing light primer strikes either. I initially thought it was the striker assembly and s&w sent me a new one but it did the same thing so after swapping the USB to an apex USB it solved the problems. I prefer the break of the apex anyways. Just sucks I had to problem solve to figure that out.

I got my kit in the mail today. I have 2 questions......

1. Is it supposed to come with a recoil spring and guide rod?
2. If I take the mag out and pull the trigger all the way back, slide moves back 2-3 mm. Is this normal?

etwinam
05-31-2017, 6:27 PM
My kit did not come with a guide rod or spring either. I ordered a new one from Midway.

Slide should not come out of battery with a trigger pull. Mine fits perfectly. Do you have pics? Also, It may be a dumb question but did your take down pin get turned back after you put on the slide, that's the only way I could think of that happening?

Was trying to look for this info but couldn't find it.

The "plate 5" that it comes with fits the Vortex Venom which has the same mounting pattern as the Burris FF3. (I've mounted Venoms on a couple other firearms using "Burris FF3" mounts.)

So far, so good, function checks are fine. As I mentioned I already have Venoms so I put one on here to try it out. You can pick up the tops of the iron sights through the optic, so it is usable with a dead red dot, if not ideal. I ordered an extra recoil rod assembly from Brownell's a little while ago so I'd have a complete separate upper. I like the texture of the performance center backstraps, although ask me again after I've shot it a few hundred times. I should get a chance to shoot it tomorrow.

I did get over to an indoor range on Friday to try it out so a quick read out...

I shot about 200 rounds through it and it functioned with no issues at all (slide locked back at every empty mag, etc.) getting the Venom squared away was a less-than-ten-round ordeal and it had no trouble holding zero, so that's good. I like the performance center backstrap texture a lot. I understand it is similar to the M&P 2.0 grip texturing which I've heard mixed reviews about, so I'm glad that didn't get irritating with time.

How did I shoot? well... It was fun to go back and forth between it and an SW22 Victory (also with a Venom on it) and really quickly identify some funny habits of mine... ...next step is correcting them!

Well, I have a small problem with mine. The striker block sticks in the slide and won't extend. No wonder my stock trigger felt so good. I can use a small pick and pop it back but it sticks on the next trigger pull. I don't have an allen wrench small enough to take the little cover off so I'll be off the home center.
Shouldn't be a big deal. At least I don't have to drift the rear sight off.

Anyone else have this problem?

JM Custom Kydex lists an "MP Pro L 9mm/.40" and you can specify their OWB2 holster with a red dot sight cut, so that might be an option. I'd probably drop them a line to double check though.

Thanks, I'm check them out. They do have options which I like but there are pretty pricey and they don't offer a low ride option unfortunately. Nobody offers a little ride option on a 1 & a half inch belt let alone for an M&P 5-inch with suppressor sights. I think I'll just have to order some Kydex and make it myself unfortunately.

Yes, I have a 5" ported CORE in 9mm and mounted my FF3 on it. The stock trigger is crap, but with the Apex trigger it's now my favorite handgun. Recoil of a .22, very fast target acquisition, just a pleasure to shoot. Everyone who shoots it loves it.

I'm just going to pull the striker block out and check the block and the channel. I've read plenty of threads that addressed much of the trigger grittiness due to machining marks/burrs in there.

I have a PC Sear in my 9C. I'll likely swap that over too.

Luckily on the core upper you only have to remove the plate for the USB swap out instead of removing the rear sight. I just bought an apex USB for $35. Easier than removing the sights on my other upper to swap it out.

OK, got the little allen wrench. Popped out the Striker Block (SB). Didn't see any burrs but still cleaned out the hole and polished the SB.

I can definitely feel the "drag" now but it's still pretty smooth. The PC SB is clearly different from the standard one. It's more rounded. The standard one looks more chamfered.

I still need to swap in my PC sear.

It was a 0.05". I had to buy a whole set to get it. Found a cheap one at Walmart. It also had the size to remove the cover screws.

I replaced the cover screws with torx t8 and a bit because I stripped the old ones out. Also got new t8 for the vortex.

You can get the little Allen on Amazon but shipping is too much. Harbor freight has them.

My core slide came in the mail today and I popped a vortex viper on it. Can't wait to get out to the range for some testing!!!

One complaint I have heard about with the viper is that the windage and elevation locking screws are on the back and therefore are blocked by the rear sight. But the core rear sight is relatively narrow and offset toward the rear, so the screws can still be accessed.

The slide is in... the rmr is in and all put together! Can't wait to sight it in at the range. How is everyone's shooting so far? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170621/90d86ae14fefa88defd091a54852b838.jpg

Everything looks great gentlemen!!! I like the light on the front, I have a TLR2hl. I'll leave to check it out and see how it shoots with it.

Anyone have a range update? I just took mine to the range the other day and it was shooting extremely low with the iron sights. Like a 8 inches below my point of aim at 10 yards.

I had 5 other guns with me and was shooting well with all of them so i know I didn't randomly develop some massive flinch.

Mine was perfectly spot on. I had to zero the red Dot a little bit though. But no problems with the iron sights. I would call s&w after I bench shot it, if I were you.

I have the Vortex Viper on mine. Co-witness is very nice. The only "downside" is the bottom load battery and the odd location for locking the adjustment screws.

That being said, anyone wanna sell me their small CORE backstraps?

You can find the back straps on ebay if you keep looking from time to time....

Thanks, folks. I'll check it out. IDK if the PRO backstraps make enough of a difference to swap out though. I'd probably cut the Talons and leave the front portion intact in combo with the PRO rear.

Also, if you notice that I blacked out my rear sights and painted the front sight yellow. I dislike the 3 dot setup and found that a focused front sight helps to locate the red dot a lot faster.

I used nail polish so it's easily reversible with rubbing alcohol. Give it a shot. It's cheaper than going for Dawsons especially if your sights are already on. Granted, I'm using a 40-9C barrel so the POA/POI is a little off via the suppressor sights, but that's what the red dot is for. This thing is a laser for sure.

OP, I see that you're variant is the later updated by the TS cutouts. You can also find PRO sears for cheap if you really wanted it. You should've had the updated parts already, but that doesn't matter since you've swapped to the Apex parts. Mine is the older, Hillary hole variant with the crap trigger so I just updated to the latest parts for $30. I'm fine with the OEM PRO sear and updated parts.

Ya, I have the Apex fss. I would be interested in the pro series sear if it will get the reset back.

I love the short reset it currently has but it drives me crazy not knowing when the reset clicks, like a Glock. I can usually time it right but riding the reset is a style of shooting I have really enjoyed on my other guns.
