Just purchased a new handgun this week. Went and bought a shield 45. Gun is very small and feels good in the hands. Sights are very good as well. Gun came with two magazines. A 7 rd mag with extension and a 6 rd mag that fits flush in the gun. The 6 rd mag makes getting a good grip a little hard but nothing really bad. Can't wait for next week to pick it up and do a range report.

Unfortunately, is it not the case that the Shield 45 is not on the Roster?

OP, You'll be pleasantly surprised by the .45 shield.

Nice trigger, good accuracy, reasonable recoil, easy carry.

They wouldn't be able to keep it in stock in California, if not for the roster of guns California doesn't want you to own...

It is even replacing my G26 as the largest carry pistol on my LTC in CA...

Buy one if you have a chance.

I've had mine for about a month +/-...... almost 1000 through it, and I love it. Good choice!!!

This is the gun the Glock G36 could/should have been.

S&W hit this one out of the park!

I put 100+ through it this morning to test the light & laser (still under 1000 total though). Yes, it is a keeper...

Did you paint those rounds yourself?

I like the new slide serrations in the front. Also the new checkering on the grip. Is that standard or custom stippling?

No, they are my bulk blasting rounds. Cheap and easy. Wait for a sale, they are frequently 10% off coupon codes.

Those are nice too bad they dont show up on the 9/40 models.
When you do a press check does your slide go back into battery? Cuz on my 9 it gets held up and i have to press it back into battery.
Like the spring tension isnt great enough or something. I'd imagine the 45 is under greater tension.

@Lonestargrizzly - my 9mm shield didn't always go back into battery whenever I did a press check.

That changed after I started using Froglube. Definitely a pleasant surprise, since I thought all this time it was just friction between the rounds in the chamber & magazine.

Actually the only things I don't care for on the .45 shield.

The front slide serrations look like a machining mistake

and the grip stippling is a little too aggressive so I covered them with Talon grips like on my other pistols...

No accounting for matters of taste I guess...

I like very much, I like smaller more than .45 for concealed carry, so I have a 9mm. I was so surprised by the quality and accuracy of mine.

How is the grip texture for IWB? Is it more or less rough than a gen 4 glock?

It's more like a RTF2 texture. Far more aggressive than a Gen 4.

Funny, I would have said it feels more Gen4 ish (the way it grips). Either way, it really helps when shooting a big bullet in a small gun...

As to IWB, the 9mm is very comfortable against bare skin, but the .45 is very unpleasant. An undershirt or beater is a must with the .45, at least for me.

I had never known shields come in .45!
I always had the G36 in mind when it came to a tiny semi .45
Nice to know this is out there!

Hmmm Confirms my wife's complaint of my alligator skin! It doesn't bother me too much. I wonder if some light sanding with 400 grit would knock the texture down just enough to make it bearable? To those with soft skin.....:D

So I picked up my Shield 45 the other day. Initial impressions so far is that the gun appears to be very well made. The sights are very good and the gun feels good in the hand. The only negative I can find right now is that magazines for this gun have very stiff springs. I mean they are ridiculously stiff. I had a hell of time trying to load the 7 and 6 rd magazines. Loading the last round in each magazine was even worst. My fingers were hurting after I was done. I believe males and females with small weak hands will have a very hard time loading the magazines to capacity. So far I have left the magazines loaded to break in the springs. Range report will come later.

Thanks EBR, the .45 is quite a bit bigger. To be expected, nice round capacity looks like a good option in a sub-compact .45.

I took these several months ago when somebody else asked that exact question. I tried to get the most dramatic angle to show the differences, but once in the hand, it is hard to fell the difference.

I put Pearce extensions on all my flush fitting magazines. They help you get a better grip without compromising concealability that much.
