All you 1911 guys with your 9mm versions have had a bad influence on me. I just got my new SA Mil-Spec the way I want it, when my local dealer puts a lovely SA Stainless Steel 1911 9mm with adjustable sights in the display case. I have lots of .45 ACP magazines, but no 9mm. So, I was thinking "Oh geez, if I buy this thing I'd have to go out and buy some extra 9mm magazines". Then, I find out that SA just started a "Gear Up" promotion, buy any SA pistol and get four magazines, mag pouch and holster for free. So, with the discount the dealer was offering me plus the Gear UP stuff, well I just had to buy this baby (photo is just a stock shot).

I went online with my receipt in hand and applied for the Gear Up promotion with SA. They sent me an e-mail in couple hours indicating that my application was approved and the Gear UP stuff will be here in few weeks. It's very easy . . . too easy! ;)

Just wait until you shoot it. There aren't enough "o's" in the word smooth to describe how nicely my SS SA 9mm shoots.

You will be unbelievably under whelmed when you shoot that pig, all the weight of a real .45 with no satisfaction.

A 1911 .22 LR conversion would have been easier on your finances.

Next time.

About 3 or 4 weeks ago, I fellow shooter at my local range had a SA 9mm like the one I just bought. He loaded a magazine with some 115gr light reloads and let me shoot it. I have to confess, I got a kick out of it. It was accurate with very little recoil, but more that a .22 lr. I'll be shooting 124gr full power ammo, so that will help the feel.

I will note that kiddingly I put on the macho act and told him, "Yeah, that's okay, but I got to get back to my lane where a man's gun is waiting, my .45 Combat Commander. However, inside I was thinking, "Yeah, that was cool." ;)

Congrats! You're gonna love it. Mine was accurate and 100% reliable right off the box, never needed any sight adjustment and not a single failure. Perfect timing with that Gear-Up promo too.

First you will think about grips- because those are easy right? Then you might replace the front sight, fiber optic...perhaps gold dot or tritium. Then the 2 piece guide rod has to go. Front strap...hmmm...grip tape or checkering? Now those grips don't feel right, time to replace those again, maybe with VZ this time.

Yeah....

I just put a fastfire on mine and now I'm thinking real hard about replacing the ILS with a standard mainspring so I can go back to a ~13 lb recoil spring and maybe feel a smoother trigger. And replacing the disconnector.

I love mine :D

Hah! Funny you should mention this stuff. I've already ordered a Pachmayr Combat Style grip (GM - 45/C) which will also take care of the front strap issue. I plan on keeping the two piece rod awhile. I have Wilson one piece rods in my other 1911s, but I'm willing to give it a chance to grow on me. As for sights, I like the plain old black target sights. I rarely shoot against large black targets, they're usually white, orange or green. Basic black look great against those backgrounds.

I'm not a fan of the I.L.S., and I've never liked a flat MSH. So, I've already ordered an Ed Brown stainless steel arched MSH with internals and I happen to have a extra Wolff 23lbs mainspring laying around. I must have read your mind about what recoil spring to use because based on some research, I also ordered a Wilson 13lbs. Finally, I will replace that overly strong and long SA firing pin spring (that thing is unbelievable) with a Wilson extra power.

Of course, the proof is in the performance on the range. We'll see . . .

Very nice. That very gun is next on my list. It's in extra jail. The new Baer had to come home first. I didn't realize that they had a smooth front strap though.

Got the Springer...9mm...love it. Fun shooter, accurate and cheap to feed.

And sure enough, he demanded a big brother...got it a Protector 45...

Crappy picture...but they are just great shooters...

So true. I got my Loaded 9mm out of jail earlier this month. As I was picking it up I noticed a Loaded .45 Parkerized in the case. Put it on layaway and get to DROS it in 8 days.

Missed the free mag promotion on the 9mm by three days...dang it.

Yeah, I caught the promo on this 9mm (it will DROS this coming Monday), but I missed it on the Mil-Spec that I purchased 5 days too soon on January 27. Oh well, it's the extra 9mm magazines I really need, I already had a bunch of .45 magazines when I purchased the Mil-Spec. It worked out okay, but 4 free .45 magazines would have been nice, too. ;)

I've been know to shoot the heck out of mine, but don't tell anybody.

Hate to tell you this but it's gonna cost you more once you get tired of the stock trigger. Then you want that bell looking thing to assist in speed reloads. Oh wait. Wow! So much custom after market parts on gun catalogs, some drops in but the custom fitted ones are the best. :p;):D

That is crazy....

Considering I read in 2014 and 2015 right here on calguns the the SA 9mm 1911 models had all been discontinued. Never to be made or seen again.

Yours must be NOS.

That's interesting because I haven't seen any around except at this dealer. It could well be NOS. I go in frequently, and first noticed he had TWO of them in the display case this past Saturday when I stopped on the way home from the range (where I had been shooting the SA Mil-Spec that I had picked up out of DROS jail on February 6). I had the guy take both out of the case and compared them side by side. The only real difference that I noted after close examination was the earlier one (s/n: NM47xxxx) had a better trigger than the later one (s/n: 49xxxx). In addition the magazines were hanging up a bit when inserted in the later one (probably a burr or rough machining of the magazine catch). So I purchased the NM47xxxx for $1,000. I figured I was lucky to find it (especially since I had two to choose from in a head to head competition).

As an aside, this is the same shop where I found a lonely little new Colt Series 1991 Commander back in early November after they had pretty much disappeared off the shelves. It was pretty much thought that it was going off the list in January 2017 . . . and it did! I have no idea where he gets these pistols that have pretty much disappeared, but at least he does not over charge, in fact, he let me have the Colt for around $725 or $750, I can't recall exactly.

I wanted to see if I paid too much so I went online. Maybe someone else is better at searching, but I did not fine any distributor that had them in stock. It seems like they've pretty much disappeared except for NOS. I'm beginning to think that SA renewed them on the Roster to give the dealers a chance to sell them. Only time will tell for sure. ;)

Not on roster. The only two on roster are the SA Target Loaded and a Kimber model I forget exactly which one.

You say that but...
I just bought a house and now I only log on to calguns to sell some of my pistols to recoup money.
Yet somehow I've also decided I need a p220 and a 1911 9mm full size.
