Well, I signed the forms at lunchtime and my 10 day waiting period starts today. I opted for a Stag Lower over a Sundevil as I view this project as learning some gunsmithing vs putting together a perfect LEGO.

From reading different posts it seems I should be looking at RRA or an Armalite 2 Stage lower parts kit (LPK). My question to the group is this: If I want to upgrade the trigger,

1) Which trigger should I look at
2) Should I choose a more economically priced LPK?

My intentions are to make this a BB configuration, and I'd like to use it for more than just plunking at the range. I'd like this rifle to be very tight and very accurate.

Any help on brands for the trigger kit and guidance on the lower parts kit would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

the RRA or Armalite 2-stage triggers are at the price/performance knee - you get a lot of trigger for a small price.

At this point there's nothing I'd suggest over it - until the Geissele SSAs are back to being available.

You might want to check out G&R Tactical's LPK, too.

Thank you for your reply.

I only saw one website (and I clicked on our sponsors) that sold Armalite LPK's.

Any other vendors out there, or is this a good price?

I purchased the Armalite 2-stage National Match trigger LPK directly from Armalite's website here http://tiny.cc/0uw3E. It's only $214.32, including shipping, however it took over a week to be processed/shipped out. If you can find it cheaper, or don't want to wait 2 weeks, order it through another retailer.

Thanks guys. I opted for the armalite 2 stage LPK. I also added the Magpul extended trigger guard.

Now I just need to pick a stock. I love the look of the Magpul Masala - but I doubt we could "build" one on our own - they wouldn't sell those parts.

I want to build a rifle that is good for long distance and precision, but also good to carry for close up (20 to 100yds). Unsure if that is possible or what flavour that would be.

magpul UBR best fits your description. I believe it was designed to be an "SPR" stock, as in a collapsible stock that's also very rigid.

As far as LPK's go... I think most kits are pretty much the same, although there have been some peopel who've reported on this forum that they've had too tight of a fit for some dpms kits. I personally went with RRA 2stage and it all assembled fine. I think the rra 2stg is great for the money. You might wanna check out ar15sales.com for the kit, or lanworld. Both have great prices.

If you're still open to other considerations, i'm thinking of trying the new cmmg adjustable 2 stg for my 2nd build. Do a search, there should be a thread about it here somewhere.

As for stock.... if you wanna go with a collapsible stock that has a fixed cheeck rest(like the masada), then your only option is the magpul UBR. I've heard the ubr is on the heavyside though.

RRA's kit are very, very good and consistent. DPMS kits are on the opposite end of that spectrum. Armalite and Stag aren't bad but I would go with RRA every time.

As for the stock, I'd opt for the Vltor E-MOD personally which is ligher than the UBR and has lots of good feature.
