556 are heavy but amazingly smooth and reliable shooters.

New? I'd say that's a very fair deal.

Ever since the 556xi platform replaced the old 556, the old ones are in demand. I find them to be much better guns overall, and most of them can use a standard mag lock - unlike the 556xi that needs a big ugly cage maglock.

My favorite R556 is the DMR - that is one hell of a gun for the price (when they were selling new). I waited for mine for two years, and when I got it I was very impressed with it.

To each, their own. I had one and it was front heavy as hell. Definitely not a run and gun type.

Sig is known for handguns. I would buy Colt myself. In fact....I did!

A Colt for that kind of money?

Some builds go way over that price tag.

Front heavy?

For years Colt kept trying to make the AR-15 heavier in the muzzle so they were steadier to hold. They went through several iterations of adding weight to the barrel. Now we have people complaining that SIG's are too muzzle heavy.

SIG was known for outstanding and highly reliable infantry rifles long before they became known for handguns.

I have a classic SWAT model and I love it for what it is. Definitely a pig but very smooth shooter and very reliable.

...and $979 is an excellent t price. I severely overpaid for mine during the panic.

I have a 556R and the trigger kinda sucks. Other than that the gun is pretty nice. No issues, accurate. I wish it came with decent BUIS instead of the cheesy red dot. If your looking at the standard 556, I would pick up a mid line AR instead. Something like this:

I have one and it's very accurate and extremely light. Absolutely love it.
