A friend in need of cash is selling his Sig tacops. It is lightly used, good cond., and I want to know a fair price to offer him. I think he paid $1100 for pistol but I am happy to have it because it is off roster. Please don't include added off-roster value.

Thanks,

D

Then you aren't interested in the market value or a "fair price" for your friend.

Just make up a number, you know how much a CA 226 goes for new with tax + dros. (~$950)

Are you not willing to pay fair market value OP? If your friend decides to give you a break on the price, that's one thing, but to ask here about what the value is but not consider off roster value?

We are both roster exempt, that is why we are not considering artificial mark up value for off roster guns. The fact that it is off roster simply guarantees I won't lose money on it if I don't like it.

If you two are good friends, you don't need to be here to determine what a fair price is then.

If you are roster exempt then you can get a brand new one for $920 shipped, plus tax, DROS and transfer which where I live would make it $1036 out the door. So I'd be looking to adjust the price down for a used gun, based on that price for starters. Plus if you buy brand new - you get a lifetime warranty. If you buy used, you get no warranty. What's that worth?

They go used in excellent condition for $630 and up on Gunbroker - which again if you are roster exempt, you can buy from. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=497629491

He won't tell me what he wants for it. It's like the battle of the passive people. Thanks for your help, looks like I'm on my own.

Thanks SkyHawk. Cheapest I've seen for this pistol is a hair under $1200, but I don't buy many used guns.

That information would have helped immensely, along with condition and how many mags the gun comes with.

For good condition with 4 mags, being roster exempt, $800 is fair as you'd be saving about $150 from tax compared to new.

Otherwise he'd be better off selling to a non-exempt person where he'd get at least an easy $900, depending on condition, but he'd have to pin the mags or at least offer a few 10 rounders to offer a fair deal for the buyer.

Your friend sells it here /I will take it for $1100/, you buy brand new one for less. Win-win.

I paid $1250 for my .40 S&W with a single 10 round mag. :(

Honestly, they don't pop up often in CA, he'd be dumb to sell it to you for $800 when he can get another $400 from someone not roster exempt. You should just buy a new one and let your buddy make some cash on it.

Thanks everyone for your input. I decided to help his list the pistols on Calguns so he can get the most $ from them. He wasn't impressed with my offer of $750. I decided I didn't really need the pistol anyway. Look for them to be listed soon.
