Now that there is no sse option to get a current gen model do you lose much improvement settling for gen 3.

Depends on the model I think but the difference isnt huge. I picked up a Gen 3 21SF and I haven't looked back.

I hear mixed reviews of the Gen4 vs. the Gen3. I'll still get the few Gen3's I don't have yet but I do regret not getting the G41 when SSE was still around.

No, unless you have hands that are excessively small or large. IMHO, the interchangeable back-strap is one more thing to break or lose in the long run. I prefer the Gen 3 pistols.

Not that I would ever buy a glock , but if I did I would get a Gen 3 over the Gen4 because the grip on the 3 fits my little girl hands better than the Gen 4 G17

I have small hands, but I haven't found the Gen 3's to have size issues (any more than any other handgun I suppose). I own 3 Gen 3's.

I would though like to get Gen 4's in the future since years from now it will be easier to get upgrades, replacement parts, and 3rd party components for Gen 4's, like how it is easier today to get stuff for the Gen 3's than Gen 2's.

Also if I were a left handed shooter I'd prefer the Gen 4's most likely.

All my Glocks are Gen 4's. I sold my Gen 3s last year to convert over to Gen 4's. I prefer the texture and slightly smaller grip.

edit: Yes, I would get the Gen 3 if the Gen 4 was not available.

Yes. I got a Gen 3 G17. I'd like a Gen 4 though. Better texture on the grip, dual recoil spring, larger mag release and I would use one of the backstraps and modify it with fiberglass or something to get rid of the hump on the grip.

I wouldn't buy an unreliable Gen 4. I've READ about all kinds of people having issues with Gen 4's.

Oh wait...I own about a dozen Gen 4's and all have been flawless.

You can always PPT one, but I wouldn't pay more than $700.

A lot of people don't realize that all Gen 4 Glocks are Short Frame (SF) when used without the backstrap. This is a pretty big deal for some people with small to medium hands because the reach to the trigger is shorter than a standard Gen 3 for a given model.

You can get some Gen 3 SF Glocks but not the popular ones like 19/26/17/23. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Gen 3 and I own two in the form of a G30S and G22, but all my other Glocks are Gen 4 and I am happy for that. All the pistols on my permit currently are Gen 4 Glocks.

I think for the .40 S&W Glocks, the gen4's dual spring made a difference, but in 9mm, it didn't.

Gen3 is fine, aside from what I mentioned, you won't really notice a difference.

It can happen, but I think it is unlikely.

I sold both my Gen4's, not for profit (basically my cost) and dont regret it. Other than the better backstrap, the additional recoil (its not pronounced but noticible for those that shoot Glock's alot) and the issues with the extractors, the tradeoff to the Gen 3 wasn't worth it to me.

To me it doesn't matter really. The only Gen 4 i've tried is the 42 and its ok. The rest I have are Gen 3's. If the prices come down a little more in the Gen 4's Ill consider it, but I'm ok shooting Gen 3's for now. In my opinion, companies will eventually stop making aftermarket parts for the Gen 3 as more generations come out, but I'll cross that bridge when i get there.

The G42 is not Gen 4.You will note that Glock does not call it Gen 4, and Gen 4 does not appear on the slide. Since it is a new type of pistol from Glock, maybe it is Gen 1.

I don't really see much of a choice for most people if they want a Glock in Calif.
I only have one plastic gun, a 21SF, and I don't see anything wrong with it besides being plastic. If I were to want another I don't see why a gen 3 would be a bad thing. If we were in AZ I'm sure I'd just look for the better price.

I really like my Gen4 G34 since I have large hands and shoot left-handed. The reason I went for the Gen4 was the double recoil spring (longer life), large mag release and back straps. Happen to really like the beaver tail back strap. Also going SSE was another way to say FU to the stupid CA handgun laws.

My only complaint is the finger molded hand grip which feel less form fitting for my hand. I also have a Gen4 G35 but actually plan to sell because I'm not really digging .40 cal that much.

I have Gen 2/3/4 Glock's.

I have regular-size hands, and I am right-handed. Between my Gen 3 and Gen 4 -- I could hardly feel the differences, and I shot them both equally well.

Sure, I wouldn't mind to have the Gen 4 just because, but in California here the Gen 3 is fine by me.

I purchased Gen3 G19 last year as brand new. Initially I planned to pick up G26 but as soon as G19 fitted my hand like condom I bought it. I would still pick my Gen3 over Gen4 despite the fact I am left handed shooter and G4 can switch mag release...

Thanks for the education! I never really paid attention, which I should. I just assumed that with the duel recoil spring bumped it up to a GEN 4 version.

Also, I think I quickly read somewhere that Gen 3 sub compacts have duel springs?

Kind of interesting that the new G42 & G43 and not Gen 4, but the new G40 and G41 are.

Then there's the G24 which is a .40 cal version of the G17L, but they didn't call it the G22L. And neither of them are referred to as Gen 3 or Gen 4.

Yep you heard right - the Gen 3 Glock 26 and 27 have dual recoil springs. I had a Gen 3 27 but sold it after I got a Gen 4 G26. I shoot the 26 much better, that 27 was a handful in .40SW :) Believe it or not my sister in law carries the Gen 3 G27 as her CCW pistol, she has for years.

The gen 3 recoil spring for full size worked for all calibers
The gen 3 recoil spring for subcompact worked for all calibers

Now glock has switched over the the dual recoil spring system, each different caliber and size glock needs it's specific tension spring, so interchangability was lost.

The gen 4 disconnect and ejector housing are different aswell, so that kills interchangability aswell.

I was actually hoping that Gen 3 prices would go down during SSE as I had zero interst in a Gen 4. I was also hoping Gen 3 prices would drop now that the 4's have reached adequate production numbers, but again, no dice. Based on my experience with both, I would still rather have a 3 than a 4 if it was 9mm or .45, though I would say a .40 or 10mm might be better in 4 due to the buffer. I know most of what is driving it is the "latest and greatest" syndrome versus practicality.

I have a Glock 21sf, g19, and g36. all gen 3. That being said, for the insane amount being asked in CA to legally get a gen 4 you can get a very nice sig, or even an HK.

I would recommend looking at a Sig SP2022, I got my sister one as it has the removable back straps, like the gen 4 and is on roster. Great gun... that is if da/sa is ok with you.
