Default STOLEN from truck

How's this for a welcome to California ...

April 1st wake up to walk the dogs 0700 walk to the park and check on the truck as I always do..
Only this morning the rear hatch was wide open ...I know I didnt leave it that way..
Call CHP and wait an hour only for cop to come out and try to fingerprint only one window (even though I had the thing detailed the night before)
Well long story short the GPS on the dash was gone and a lock box with my very much loved Ruger GP101 stainless 357..4 in barrel

Since I have no faith that the cops will do little more than just file a report..
I am putting the word out on the streets myself ,help me to keep a look out
If anyone finds one for sale please let me know ..

Sorry about what happened and hope you one day get the gun back.

Just another lesson though, don't ever give anyone an incentive to break into your vehicle. Out of sight out of mind for the most part. Even police vehicles get broken into for the guns.

Myself, I'd never leave a firearm overnight in any of my vehicles even in my own attached garage.

I dont get why repo men are hated.... I guess people think its "wrong" for a paid employee to go retrieve a BANKS property because the "owner" was a flake or lost their job or whatever and couldnt pay for their car so the BANK had to go get it back....

Thats a lot different than someone STEALING your paid for item... Now if he owed money on his revolver and got it repo'd then it would be apples to apples LMAO

Wait what was the original question? I shouldnt drunkppost.

Just so everyone knows leaving a GPS on the dash inside of your car is a big invitation to vehicle burglary/theft. Those things are the hot item right now to steal. Also I hope it was'nt a GM truck. GM vehicles are so easy to break into it's not funny. A drill/screw driver + 10 seconds= easy access.

If you don't want to carry the GPS around, atleast take it off the dash and place it into the center consol/glove box and wipe away the suction cup mark.

Yep stupid me...did the same thing...I should have known better, there went my Christmas present (GPS) and all my other stuff I had in the back of my Suburban ...big red flashing sign saying "STEAL ME" dummy owner... but really, I hope you get your gun back...after all, that's one reason why we register them correct

wow

thats what i was told by the local LEO was that GPS are big ticket grabs right now....
(also "welcome to california" no joke the cop really said "welcome to california" )

Per the law the firearm was stored in a steel lockbox and a trigger lock on the firearm itself so my guess was the gps was the goal and they just grabbed the lockbox without knowing what was in it ...

But I am in Redwood City, Ca (only till I get a chance to leave this freaken back'ards state)

The Firearm serial number

#175-04935

Thanks again for the lookouts ....the help support and the replies .......

((Darn I really liked that handgun)))

Don't take this the wrong way, but hopefully it's a lesson learned in basic crime prevention. You left an item of value in plain view, yea, that's literally telling burglars to break in. I'm guessing you're not going to leave valuables in your ride anymore.

Just curious, why did CHP come out and take the report? They mostly handle traffic related matters on the highway and in the unincorporated areas. Why not the local PD or Sheriff?

Walking against the signal is one of the leading methods of crossing the street here in Berkeley. Luckily they're worth 2x multipliers when they do that.

I had a friend who had their GPS stolen. It was registered with the manufacturer so he gave the cops the serial # and since the robber left the GPS on they were able to track the GPS to his house where they arrested him. May want to try that option

You don't need the trigger lock on the gun. As long as it's unloaded and in a locked container you're fine. The dividing line between the good and the bad for Redwood City seems to be El Camino. It's actually that way all the way down El Camino from Daly City to Palo Alto (I haven't been on El Camino too far south of Palo Alto.

I don't know why RCPD didn't come out. CHP shouldn't of had that call unless you were parked on a non-city street.

Sorry to hear you lost your property.

sucks about all the stuff that happened to ya.

and sucks that nobody here will locate your gun, why? all guns have to be dros'd so you can't just do a ftf ppt like your old state, so you can't buy a stolen gun here legally. the guy that stole it will be selling it illegally, and the guy buying it illegally knows it's either stolen or has bodies on it and doesn't give a crap.

repo... I came from a smaller town in AZ and got my naive trusting butt handed to me during my first year here, but you'll get used to it and turn into a butthole cityfolk in no time.

Please stay in this state and try to change the mind of the non-gun lovers that live/work around you.
I moved out here 26 years ago(from MA.) and never looked back.
It grows on you(like a wart) but you get use to it and find that you can still enjoy owning a gun here.
Hope it looks up for you.
