Is this a period conversion? Or was this done by a contemporary gunsmith? Also, has the Spencer Repeating Arms Co stamp been ground off? It looks like it has in the pic showing the top of the action.

EDIT: Also this could be a stupid question but you say this is .50? What cartridge does it fire, exactly? .50 could be a few things.

I was told it was an old conversion, but I can't prove it. I do know its a quality conversion and yes its logo has been beveled off to match the receiver which was common. The Indian tax I feel were added later.

As far as the caliber goes all I know is the previous owner said it was a .50 caliber. Someone in the know could probably figure this out quickly.

Have you actually micrometered the bore size to ensure its exact caliber? I am very interested in it if it is truly .50 caliber (vs. original .52 or .56). Also, can you look down onto the face of the breech block to see if it was converted to centerfire, from original rimfire? Does it still have the cartridge tube in the buttstock? Thanks, Jeff

I have the rifle packed but now my scale is giving me questionable weights. I have a friend bringing his scale over when he gets off work. Sorry for the delay.
