Classic...

I've been to LAX many times. Do some of the employees have an attitude? Yes, i've brought friends who've mentioned the type of treatment we get sometimes when we are there. On the other hand, there are some pretty cool guys that work there, very friendly and informative. Keep in mind this is a Gun Range not a health spa, I personally don't expect any friendly treatment from any Gun range or store, but I wouldn't put up with getting disrespected either. I haven't been to any "perfect" range yet, Oaktree for me is close. But I do recommend LAX and plan on still going there. Here are some of my pros and cons of LAX.

pros
-You can shoot pistols and rifles including AR & AK's.
-Most weeknights you can find a lane available except for Weekends
-Most ammo in stock
-Recently renovated - I haven't been there for awhile so i'm not sure how much is finished.
-Usually no RO's in the actual room you are shooting in, but they can see you through windows, a lot less oversight vs Angeles Range for example, much more casual.
-Good ventilation, what I mean by that is that their AC ducts are not facing the targets directly, causing them to move or sway... like the way they have it at TheFiringLine in Northridge!

cons
-Indoor ranges are loud as hell, might be alarming for noobies, can get crowded as well
-No RO's in the room can be a drawback as well, again a lot less oversight, a lot more dangerous in my opinion. I've been swept by "wannabe gangsters" (hopefully that is a more politically correct stereotype) on several occasions.

I'm local to LAX and Never have a problem... The lanes have been updated and I have never had a problem with the employees... Maybe because I walk in with a smile (because I'm about to go shooting) and engaged in small talk with the employees. Never had a problem with attitudes.
What I hate is the parking...

I spelled "grammar" incorrectly on purpose. It was a shot at me being ironic.

Listen, I am all in favor of the grammar police. I like to maintain writing standards.

But, dismissing your spelling mistakes, your grammar isn't perfect. And your sentence structure is poor. So your irony kinda misses the mark.

they even looked through my tool kit ...for ammo ??

then procede to ask me and my shooting buddy if we were LEOs, right in front of a couple sketchy looking guys.
Please dont out off duty LEOs in front of others.

LAX is good to go, most of the employees are courteous. However I don't care too much for the hyper young tall skinny dude who gets on the mic periodically counting down to closing time, one 20-30 min warning is good enough.

Compared to other states, I'd say that the customer service at most LA-area gun ranges and stores is lacking. I'm not sure why. The largely young male demographic that they hire is probably part of the reason. Maybe they have to deal with a lot of knuckleheads/time wasters. I guess that the gun industry attracts a certain type of employee, and it's pretty common to encounter guys with chips on their shoulder. I would figure that most of us would be used to it. As a teenager, I got used to judgmental cool guys working at record stores and over-talkative waiters working at chain restaurants. Every industry is going to have its type.

That said, I don't find LAX to be any better or worse. People there have always been polite enough to me. And they're cordial to the Calguns gatherings that I've gone to.

The lack of oversight is a bit nerve-racking though. I went there this week and there was a 9-person party of Chinese tourists. None of them had any gun experience at all. They handed them a bunch of rental firearms, gave them a 30 sec lesson on how to load and rack a semiauto, and set them loose. I mean, no one died, and I guess no one has been shot inside their so far (or maybe they have?). Since their range is in the city and is certainly a tourist/first-timer draw, they really should have someone on hand inside for most of the day.

Tell you one thing though. If gun store jobs include a sales commission, it wouldn't be hard to earn a ton of money working there. Just being friendly, exhibiting some rudimentary salesmanship (want bullets with that? want a bag with that? need a cleaning kit?) and setting up an organized way for customers to queue up and wait to be helped woudl put you leaps and bounds past most stores around here.

I think the biggest advantage to the LAX Range, is the Cafe Cancun Mexican Restaurant a few doors down (next to Arby's). Nothing like a big plate of food after some shooting.

In fact, the #7 all chicken, sounds good for lunch today!

As I mentioned to you at the time of the incident, my concern is for the safety of the range and it's customers. As it was relayed to me, you were on lane 5. They was wolf brand brass scattered across the floor in your specific lane. You had an AR pistol on the table and there was damaged to the ceilings and baffles all along your lane. That was not the case when the lane was assigned to you.

As our Range Master walked the floor, he asked you if you were using ammo that we do not allow. You said no but then there was more of it afterwards. So at that point I personally called a cease fire so that I could safely have you pack up and come to the front counter to discuss it. You were addressed individually and no one else could hear what I was saying to you.

At the front counter, I explained to you my concern for the safety of the range & my patrons and somehow that didn't appear to register to you. After inspecting all of your ammo and discovering that you no longer had any prohibited ammunition, I did offer to allow you to stay but instead you declined.

So your coming here to vent or discourage people from coming to my range is your right but be sure to tell both sides of the story!

Is the porno bookstore still next door? Are they still fingering your guns and looking through your stuff before allowing entry? Don't get me wrong, LA gun club and sharpshootershave issues too but of the 3 I will take sharpshooters.

No way lax double no way LA gun club. Really I can't stand shooting at most formal ranges I'd rather wait to do BLM. I went to Insights recently I usually dislike it but I had no issues this tine I think they were too busy and greedy to spend time harassing me about ammo and wanting to paw through it plus we had a pretty Chinese girl with us that distracted them.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. I had a similar incident at the LA gun club, with an employee that had an attitude problem, no knowledge of the ranges actual policies and no knowledge of ammunition types. Both ranges essentially suffer from the same problem, they do not have proper competition. The ranges will be either ran incorrectly or inconsistently until that changes. I stopped going to LAGC for a long time after my experience and sure enough nothing had really changed when I went back a couple months ago.

I've been going to LAX since it opened I can say I've never had any problems like this. If an employee was out of pocket I could mention it to Dan and he'd take care of it. After Nolan took over I noticed the range ran smoother, safer and he ran an even tighter ship with the employees. If he makes a mistake he owns it and makes it right. But one thing he hates is when people try to BS him just be up front and honest he is very reasonable. Hopefully you'll give him a call and sit down and discuss this with him to work this out.

Ummm...not right now...actually not in general but right now alot of BLM land is closed for target shooting due to the fire season.

Not sure what to make of the original incident but I know that I have other choices for locations to shoot and I tend to avoid establishments that "might" have a problem if I do have other choices.

Royalty? Maybe you like when people talk down to you and treat you like crap. I dont especially when you are paying for a service. When you are at restaurant you expect clean plates, clean food and for the them to treat you with some respect. Same goes for any retail shop.

As a recently new shooter, some months ago I walked into LAX range seeking to learn and talk about purchasing my first firearm. I was willing to pay for lessons though wasn't really intending to do anything that day. I guess I was more so checking the place out hoping to find a friendly face. I spoke with the old man you are talking about and there was also a young skinny guy there. They were very rude, when I asked about lessons, the old man made a statement to the effect of "more than you can afford" and then persisted to make fun of the fact I was in shorts and flip flops. I laughed and told him if he knew who I was he might not actually say that. Later that day I went to oak tree gun club and found a very happy home there. Very helpful friendly staff and it has driven me to spend lots of money up there.

Lesson learned, I chalked it up as LAX range looks like a dump and resides in the ghetto for a reason.

I live about equal distances to both LAX and FT3. Perhaps I'll alternate between the 2 for Calguns shoots. Although, there's Roscoe's for LAX. Hrmmmmmm......

FT3 is Field Time? Have you considered the Insight shoot? That one may be the closest to you if you split the distance between LAX and FT3.
