Default WWII/Nazi made FN Browning High-Power

I am a C&R 03 in California. I would like to buy a complete original WWII/Nazi made FN Browning High-Power handgun from out of State. It is classified as a C&R. I am aware that I need to go through a California FFL 01 dealer. The issue: this WWII FN Browning High-Power has a detachable 13-round magazine capacity. In California there is a ban on magazines holding more than 10 rounds and they can no longer be imported into California or transferred within the state.
Is it illegal to buy such a C&R handgun from out of State because of the 13 round magazine?
Thank you

I believe you can buy the gun but not the mag. Unless you already have in your possession before the year 2000 some FN Hi-cap mags. Don't break the law and you shouldn't have any problems.

Actaully, you can buy the magazine, but you may not import it into California.

If you have a 03FFL and you're buying the HP out of state and it is a WW2 era HP and therefore a C&R, you can cash & carry if the seller's state allows that. You just have to register it w/ DOJ within 5 days (I think) of bringing it into CA- costs $19/ gun. And like another poster said, you can't bring the mag into CA with you.

What if you have the mag shipped disassembled. You then make a permanent modification to the mag that only allows 10 rds and then reassemble it.

I think that would be legal, but I wouldn’t do it. Instead, I would keep the magazine disassembled for eventual disposition outside of California … of it or myself.

I would NOT THINK of modifying a WW2 nazi mag for any reason. That's (probably/maybe) the mag that was issued with the gun...or at least it's from the same era.

You won't have any trouble finding prk-legal mags for a bhp.

Per the post above, have the mag(s) shipped to you disassembled and keep 'em If you don't want them, I'll take them.

thank you very much for your answers. To summarize:

- Yes a California C&R licensee can buy an original WWII browning Hi-Power (bhp) outside California. The bhp can be shipped from out-of-State to a California FFL 01 who accepts out-of-State C&R handguns transfers.
- However, the original 13 rounds magazine that was issued with the WWII bhp can not be shipped to California.
- The disassembled 13 rounds original WWII mag can be shipped to California. This 13 rounds mag can not be reassembled and can not be used for shooting purposes in California.
- A non-original/non-WWII 10 rounds can be legally bought in California and can be used with the WWII bhp.
- If the California licensee was in possession of a 13 rounds bhp mag before the high cap mag law went into effect, this mag can be used for shooting purposes in California.

Is this about right?

Default mag

You can't use a High Cap magazine bought after 2000 ban, but only keep it disassembled for replacement parts, or for use outside CA. (Keep them disassembled at all times whilr you are in CA) You only can use High Caps that you had posession of before 2000 ban. You got it right.
