Default Choice of 3 scopes for AR15

I have a flattop heavy barrel AR15 that I want to put glass on. I have three scopes that are take offs that I can use. Which would be the best match? I was told the ART IV (since it is .308 BDC) would be OK despite it being designed for .308.

None of these have mounts, so I'll have to buy something regardless of which one I use.

1. Leatherwood/Springfield ART IV
2. Nikon P223
3. Leupold 3-9 x 40

Mainly for use at the range, 200 yards, desert environment. THANK YOU for any advice.

Also take a look at the Redfield BattleZone scope.

Way cheaper than a Leupold.

The Leupold 3-9 is a great scope for that type of shooting. I have two different Leupolds in that magnification on two different rifles.

Leupold makes many 3-9x40 riflescopes. Which particular model and reticle?

Took a quick look at the Leupold. It is a Vari-X II, 3-9x50 (yep, fifty) with a duplex reticle. I mistakenly thought it was a 40.

For now, I am going to try the ART IV scope. I got it on a trade and the ballistics it was designed for (.308) are close enough for my casual shooting in a .223 rifle.

If I don't like it, I'll try the Leupold.

I wouldn't waste the time with the ART... go with the Leupold!

I highly agree go with the Leupold....also...while you're at it...look into a good quality quick detach mount System...larue or american defense.
