Question OC/LA anodizing group buy - UPDATED MARCH 11

|

See post #58 for all the most recent information.

|

GROUP BUY FULL. ALL 20 SLOTS TAKEN.

UPDATE: Calgunner MilSpecMonkey is taking over the group buy.

See post #58 for all new information.

--------------------------------------------------

UPDATE MARCH 3 @ 1630:

Here's who we have confirmed so far for the group anodizing:
  1. nil, 1 Lower milled out of spec.
  2. MilSpecMonkey, 1
  3. vlady, 2
  4. forcedfedsti, 1
  5. trailtundra, 3
  6. mydogsmonkey, 1
  7. veeklog, 1
  8. redranger13, 2
  9. themood, 7
  10. munkeeboi, 1

Total number of receivers so far: 19
Total cost per receiver so far: $165/19 = $8.68

Please let me know by midnight on Tuesday, March 4th if you want to be in in the group buy. Group buy slots are filled. A drop off date should be available within the next few days.

To get on the list, please send MilSpecMonkey a PM with the following:
  1. Number of lowers
  2. Engraved or not (any identifying marks) All lowers need to be engraved with some personal markings. See below.
  3. 100% or 80%

The plan is to set a date/time for all those interested to drop off their lowers at the shop. The turnaround time is about a week and we can pick them up then. In order to qualify for the batch price, all lowers need to go in at the same time.

All lowers must be engraved with some kind of identifying mark. It doesn't have to be a serial number, just a mark that'll help you identify it as yours. You can engrave/dremel your initials or whatever special markings you want under the pistol grip area. It'll be hidden once you install the pistol grip.

We are looking to have the list finished and anodizing date set by March 7th.

Techplate in Anaheim is about the same price. They take a while depending on their queue. They do have FFL, so you can leave the lower. Might want to check if anyone else needs to ano their lowers to get the price down.

If you care about aesthetics, I'd have it bead blasted before you anodize. Makes for an even finish, but is usually extra cost.

Get it cerakoted.

There are plenty of vendors in the LA/OC area that do it.

and it surely wont cost you $155.

You can get it to match any color furniture you want whether it be FDE, OD GREEN, COMBAT GREY, the list is endless.

Not the mention the benefits cereakote gives over other traditional coatings like phosphate. Check it out.

I've got a lower cerakoted before & it's already chipping from just a poor bolt catch roll pin install. I'm going to stick with anodizing.

I'll keep this in mind. I have one raw lower that needs some engraving first.

Good call.
Anodizing trumps Ceracoat in almost every respect.

I'll confirm tonight, but should be good for 2 but we would still need 2 more lowers to take advantage of the price

The plan is for all of us to meet at the anodizing shop. I will not be transferring any lowers. I plan to set a time to drop off the lowers & wait for the work to be done.

I pay $20 cash for type 3 anodizing in Fresno ... And you don't have to stay on site. They have multiple colors. Very pro 2a company. Very discreet. $120 check or charge or $20 cash they charge. I have taken just one before.

Myself and MilSpecMonkey are working on getting details settled.

If there's only 5 lowers we're probably going to go with Danco in Arcadia. If there's more than that, probably another anodizer in the LA area. Still working on the details.

Just a heads up guys this shop I am referring to does pick ups and delivery all over CA for large orders. Obviously not stuff like this, but get enough together and they may make arrangements to pick it up on one of there trips down.

Shop in Garden Grove. Type III hard coat in black. They'll do whatever fits in the basket. Waiting for confirmation on bead blast.

I am wondering the same thing. Won't bead blasting strip off the Cerakote?

Sandblasting will certainly work so I would assume bead blasting will work and make a smoother surface due to the nature of the media. It may take a little longer, but should work

Sandblasting would be faster, but bead blasting will also remove the ceracoat.

Not with our group buy. We're only doing 1 batch, type III black.
