Default Anodizing Group Batch -Bay Area UPDATED 3/14/14 *FINISHED*

UPDATE 3/14/14: Batch is done, pickup is still tomorrow, at 0900. If you can't make it, PM me to work out details.

UPDATE 3/12/14: got an email from Pete regarding batch.
Quote:
Everything is goin along swimmingly...should all be ready on Saturday. I'll stay in touch
Pickup is 0900 on Saturday 3/15/14, unless this post says differently.please be on time, and bring CASH!!! I don't want to flood him with debit cards.
Thank you

UPDATE 3/8/14: Drop off went good. Thanks to everyone that showed. 14/20 is pretty good, bout what I expected. Pete will be in contact with me when they are finished. As of right now, we are planning pickup for next Saturday, March 15th at 0900. That may change if they are not finished. Follow this thread and I will put "FINISHED" in the title when they are ready for pickup.

3/7/14:Tomorrow's the day!! Shouldn't take more than a few minutes to complete everything. Try and arrive a few minutes early, and we can get your part "inventoried" and you can get on your way. I'll be arriving about 0830. I'll be in a gold toyota highlander. I'm pretty sure you will pay when you pick up, but please be prepared to pay at dropoff just in case. Thanks

3/5/14:Only a couple days left. Please plan on arriving a few minutes early so we can gather all the parts into a group. I'd also like to write down a list of everyone's part(ar15/10 and either ser or identifying marks), so there is no confusion come pickup time. Anyone who wants can take a picture or whatever of the list for their records. Don't be late!! Thanks!
Also, I believe everyone has marked their parts in some way. Just in case, can someone bring a dremel n engraving bit? Got the idea off the LA ano thread. Sounded like a good idea.
I talked to Pete regarding people mailing in their lowers to him for this deal. Because of the size of the batch, and growing, you are not going to be able to mail in your lowers(my decision). It's getting out of hand, people asking for all sorts of favors on this. I apologize if this is an inconvenience, but we need to make this smooth for all parties involved. Thank you.

Talked to Pete(email), and he said March 8th(Saturday) @ 0900 hrs(9:00am) will be our meet time.

This is the email he sent me tonight.
Quote:
$25/ea. HOWEVER, that is for de-greasing, abrasive grit blasting and mil-spec Type III hard anodize only. I am getting messages from guys who want in on this who want special masking/plugging etc. I usually will do some minor de- burring, adjusting, etc on individual parts (when paying individual prices, on individual parts) but at larger quantities this is not possible.
So please make sure your parts are good to go and your ok with this

He has a FFL. His name is Pete Swanson, and he works out of Global Plating at 44620 S.Grimmer Blvd in Fremont.

His info:
Phone: (510) 406-2962
Email: peteswanson@sbcglobal.net
http://www.cerakoteguncoatings.com/resource/locator/

Please have your lowers marked somehow to identify them. Make sure it will withstand the beadblasting. Thanks

I think you might have it backwards: if they do not have an FFL then you do have to stay with the firearm.
I don't think you have to stand next to them as they do the work but you have to stay until it's done and take it home with you.

^^^
I agree. I would think that would not be possible with the anodizing process (takes too long to remain with the lower from start to finish).

Arnold's Metal Finishing has an FFL so you can leave the completed receiver with them for anodizing.

Are you engraving a serial number into them? before you have them anodized? in order to leave with FFL?

I am planning on getting engraving done first. That's just how I want it. I called Arnold's and was quoted $80/lower. Forgot to ask about batch deal. Was waiting to see if anyone was interested.

I'm interested in a group buy for this. I have 3 that need annodizing, but they're not engraved (and not going to be). If we can work out the legal hassle of who possesses who's lower, and get the price lower than $80 each, I'm in.

I'm interested in a group buy too, but I'm in OC. If the anodizer is an FFL I can mail mine in.

I don't believe Arnold's offers any type of "batch discount". The price is strictly per lower.

I'm interested as well but not sure how it would work out with someone else transporting other people's lowers if they are 100%

I got a quote for anodizing in Fremont for $60 for one, or $50 each for 2 or more. Place is called Global Plating. No idea if they have an FFL or what.

Ok, looks like I'm gonna go to Pete Swanson in Fremont. It's closer to me and he gave me a quote of 4-8/$40ea, 8+ we will talk..so I'm gonna try and set up a drop off for Thursday. I'll get back on this thread
Edit: Or maybe I'll set something up for early next week. I can have my brother take the batch down early in the morning, so possibly get them done same day...lemme know what everyone thinks.
Here's a thread on his work:

How will it work legally, with everyone's completed lowers in your possession? Especially if they're not engraved? Can I drop my 3 off at Pete Swanson's shop in the morning, pick them up in the evening, and get the group pricing? Or do you have to bring all the lowers in one box?

Ok, I need to get a count. Please post:
1.how many lowers
2.identifiable? (Engraved or otherwise)
3.completed or 80
4.your location(I leave in east bay and shop is in Fremont)
And please be patient. I work M-F, unless it's raining. That's why I'm trying to do this now with rain coming. All the shops I've found are closed weekends.
Also, any questions, please use PM. Thanks

Yes. I talked to him on the phone. I'd like to drop the batch off Saturday morn, or we can all plan on meeting there sat morn. He quoted me $30/each if I can bring him 15+. Fremont is way closer for me than Santa Clara(Arnold's). He gave me a turnaround time of less than a week for the batch. It includes blasting n prep.

Yes he is. I would hold off until I get a head count. Up to you tho. Can't guarantee batch price if I don't have enough to send in sat

Anyone know if there are any issues re-anodizing a Colt upper/lower? Is bead blasting required and how much extra do they charge?

The bead blasting is included.

I just sent my lower to get engraved. Won't be ready till next week supposedly. With that, I think next sat(3/7?) would be a better drop off date. We'll see what happens with this thread by early next week..

Not sure about that...I've been told it only adds like .003" to it. Should be fine
