Default Santa Clara County Meet and Greet 3/1 and Follow-Up for First Meeting

EDIT: Next Meeting is 3/15/14

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who showed up, for showing up. We had a great group of people turn out and were able to really share some good information about what is going on in our county.

For those of you who missed it, this is the original thread.

We will be holding another meeting, two weeks from the first one, on March 1st @6pm. This meeting will be held at the Holder's Country Inn on De Anza Boulevard. The address is:

998 South De Anza Blvd
San Jose, CA 95129

What You Missed At Our First Meet:
  • Review of Sheriff Laurie Smith, her record, and the lawsuit against her.
  • Brief review of Sheriff Candidate Kevin Jensen
  • Organizing to monitor the county/board of supervisors for any anti gun efforts. (None found at the time of this writing, buybacks have been addressed)
  • Review of Sunnyvale Measure C and the lawsuits against it.
  • Review of local anti-gun organizations, public figures, and efforts.
  • Organizing to monitor our individual cities and towns for public anti-gun meetings.
  • Early planning for pro gun rights/civil rights PR and advocacy here in the county.
  • Special thanks to the representative from the Pink Pistols for showing up!

This list is not exhaustive, we have more things in the works in order to keep our county free of nonsense. Adeodatus and I hope to see you all at the next meeting!

It was a good meeting and thank you to Adeodatus and CrazyScott90 for putting it together. Well worth the time to listen to many of the independent ideas coming together to something cohesive.

It was just announced recently that our dear Sheriff Laurie Smith has officially kicked off her reelection campaign with its first event.

Now, I'm sure I don't have to remind everyone that we should be as civil and polite as possible, if you should decide to attend this event. We represent the pro-gun rights community when we go to a public event like this and the media is always more than happy to portray us in as negative a light as possible. Also, I would suggest that anyone attending make an effort to dress nicely (I do realize that many of us work hard jobs for a living though).

Also: Casey Thomas has a thoughtful post where he lists a number of things worth quizzing Laurie about.

That's all folks! We will be updating the original post of her record fairly soon with some new information.

Default Observation.

We will get a Santa Clara group up and running. The attitude of everyone at the last meeting is we would like to see what we are doing in Santa Clara spread to other counties as well.

In my view we not only need to "kill" these stupid gun control proposals at the local level, but we need to make it painful for those who created these proposals.

If we not only go on "defense", but come out on "offensively" and "injure" our opponents, then we will become both "feared" and "respected".

If it causes political pain to attack us in the SF Bay Area, we will see less action in Sacramento from SF Bay area politicians.

We have 3 areas of the state where we need to have "boots" on the ground.

1. Los Angeles
2. San Fran Bay Area
3. Sacramento

One thing I brought up at the meeting was going into our opponents home turf and getting in their face, things are already in motion, enough said.

Everyone attending the last meeting was committed to doing something, either being a leader or helping others. The people who came last time were not spectators, they were active participants.

A simple analogy is sports, there are those who play and those who watch, our event is geared for the "PLayers", but of course if you are a "Watcher", we will be happy to help you also become a "Player".

Defeating Tyranny means that no one who wants to play will be a "bench warmer".

We all have our individual talents and the American game that describes what we need to do is baseball. When we are up at bat, it is time for individual achievement, but when we are in a field, we are part of a TEAM.

Looking forward to going on "Offense" and "winning".

Nicki

Hey, what's stopping you from organizing a county/regional meet-up in the east bay? That is pretty far out of the way for Adeodatus or myself, but it's presumably in your neck of the woods.

Just start a thread. That's what we did.

I'm new to the Calguns community but have been active about contacting my reps and other politicians in opposition of Anti 2a bills. I'm looking forward to attending the meeting and am willing to volunteer and help support our efforts in anyway that I can.

Joe

Hey everyone! Hope to see lots of you this Saturday!

We will have lots of updates and action plans to implement.

One of the newest topics we will be going over is Sheriff Smiths CCW update to the SCC website!!!

Quote:
CCW Permits
Last modified: 2/25/2014 6:37 PM
Members of the public wishing to obtain a CCW under the standards recently articulated by the Ninth Circuit in Peruta v. County of San Diego should be aware that the decision has not yet become final.

Federal court rules prescribe a period of time which must elapse before the case is remanded to the District Court for further proceedings.

Applicants that seek a CCW permit under the self-defense standard set forth in Peruta will be processed in the order they are received should the decision of the Ninth Circuit become final. Once the decision becomes final, applicants will be contacted by the Sheriff’s CCW Unit with instructions on how to complete the process.

In order to accommodate, and expedite, the large numbers of anticipated applications, the Sheriff’s Office and County Counsel are currently revising the process for issuing CCW permits.

If you are interested in applying for a CCW permit, please complete the application below and submit it either via mail or in person to:

Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office
ATTN: CCW Unit
55 W Younger Avenue
San Jose, CA 95110

Currently it takes approximately six months to complete the CCW application process.

If you have any questions, please email CCW@sheriff.sccgov.org. Due to the overwhelming amount of phone calls we have received, we will only be corresponding via email.

CCW Permit Application Form

See you there!!!

Still in Princeton for this one too, could we get a debrief afterwards?

The link in the first post says the address is 1414 Saratoga.
You have the address as 998 S De Anza blvd.
Which is it? If I make it I'll be on,the bus and my bicycle. Having the right info is pretty important for me.

There are two(2) Holder's Restaurants. One of them is at the 1424 Saratoga address. The other is at the 998 S De Anza Blvd. address.

The organizers of this meetup are telling us to go to the restaurant at the 998 S De Anza Blvd address. The 1424 Saratoga address is the address of the main Holder's location. Do not go to the Saratoga address.

I will be heading on over to the 998 S De Anza Blvd address at 6:00pm Saturday 01-March-2014

The hyperlink is only meant as a reference for people not familiar with Holders. Instructions for the location of the meetup are whats shown in my original post. Sorry if this caused any confusion.

Living in the OC I can't help you guys but I want to add a word of encouragement. I have taken part in multiple grass roots efforts down here. They are unrelated to 2A but nonetheless we fought against politically entrenched opponents who were just a tad too arrogant about their positions. YOU WILL BE ASTOUNDED AT YOUR HIDDEN POWERS!

Your opponents are in their comfort zones and your job is to enter the room, kick over the table, and reboot the political process. If you do this right they will not know what hit them. Here are a few things that work well, spoken from experience:

1. Respect. There is little to gain by disrespectful behavior and the public reacts negatively to it.
2. Information. Start collecting and organizing it. Separate fact from opinion. Find someone in your organization who knows PR or marketing and use their skills to distill it into an easily consumable message.
3. Effectiveness. Make it a priority in whatever you do. It's better to be effective than non-effective, no matter how "right" you think you are. Keep your eye on the target and work toward your goal. Don't get sidetracked other issues (killing Obamacare is important but it's not going to help further the 2A cause).
4. Reach out to your core constituency. Gun owners may be only 20% of the population in your area but that's a huge number! That much noise cannot be ignored.
6. No bad ideas. In the end you have to make decisions, and once a decision is made everyone needs to line up behind it. But in the beginning there are no bad ideas. Respect and appreciate all ideas.
5. Have fun. Form a community, pat each other on the back, have parties and barbecues. Share the good times and the bad. This may be the one of the most rewarding thing you have ever done. Lifelong friendships will be formed.

Huge thumbs up from a SoCal community activist. Hopefully I can time one of my Bay Area trips to attend one of your events.
