Default I own a CrownVic, opinion from LEO

I'm just looking for opinions from traffic cops. Ive been driving an ex-police Crown Victoria (Brown, SAP package) for the last 4 years or so. I tend to drive a bit fast and make illegal u-turns (safely, of course). I haven't ever been pulled over.

Have I just been lucky, or is it that I may appear to be LEO?

Opinion ...Doper. Seriously. You may not be but thats what comes into my mind when I see one. Most of the gems driving in my city are trash. Again, not saying you are just giving an opinion to your question.

If you get an old police car, flip over the air cleaner lid.

I love to piss off the guys who drive P71s. I speed up and switch lanes for no reason, switch back. Slow down, speed up. Just to get a rise out of them.

You've just been lucky.
If they're not cops why would they care how you drive?

Does "I'm sorry" count as an opinion.

As someone who fixes them for a living, I'm surprised you have been able to drive it for this long without something major failing.

Many crown vics with regular plates and no visible lights are used by the local dept. near me. Some have the tint cut out around the deck lights, some don't.
What usually gives it away that they are retired cars, is the Christmas tree air freshener and band stickers.

I hate it when I slow down for the amber honey combs in my rear view and then realize that it's a de-comm'd cruiser.

I'd drive a cherry one if I could get it cheap.. but as many have already said, most are pretty beat up by time they are retired.

There used to be a company in TX or the Mid-West that buys them from Agencies and does a pretty good refirb. They reject the junk and take the above average and refirb them to above average condition.

They target the re-selling market for smaller Agencies with budget constraints.

I'll see if I can find you the link for ya.

Go ahead and throw an intake manifold in the trunk. You'll need it before you need your spare tire.

And learn to enjoy life at 55.

I had one back in the mid 2000s. Ran greAt. I'd probably look for one from the dept of education or some other .gov agency rather than an actual retired police cruiser. They tend to be less beat down while still being police interceptors.

That's funny, I've noticed that myself.
Maybe they think they're more immune to arrest driving one as opposed to some other beater, or maybe they just wanted to try one from the front seat.

Now you will definitely get stopped. Not the smartest to come on here and tells us you violate traffic laws in a police runout, IMHO. I stop the **** out of police runouts. Mostly dirtbags drive them where i work, not calling you a dirtbag by any means. I always laugh to myself when I stop a parolee or other DB driving the same vehicle they probably had such a head time going into when they were arrested.

LEOs have ways of knowing other LEOs.

I am a former CEO, now maybe going back to the profession and I purchased a CVPI about 3 years ago while employed as a CEO in case I needed to do work on the weekend. Of course the fact that the vehicle seemed to FLOAT and had a HUGE capacity to carry about all of my guns in the trunk was a nice + as well.

I have finally relieved myself of the "fake cop" attitude while driving it. At this point I am stuck with it, but at least it is paid off and I am fairly confident that if I need to move, it roars into gear and MOVES. And, I don;t think twice about people passing me.

They are NICE cars, but many LEO seem to hate them becasue they are in them all day long. I agree it would be fun to have a different driving experience but these cars ARE nice if you get a nice one. The only issue I had with mine so far was 1 COP in the engine and a window that popped off track. Other than that, I load the engine up with shaeffer green oil and drive all over the place.

Excellent cars, but don't get the mindset that you are above the law because you have one.

I will say though, when I had no plates on it (waiting for them to come in) I got a LOT of waves from oncoming officers. made me happy to wave back. Of course I usually do wave, but the car seemed to make them pay closer attention to me, so I got more waves back

While they are great cars though (and mine has cruise control!) I still have that urge to pitt someone when they cut me off on the road. The only thing keeping me from doing it though is my sanity and knowing right from wrong.

Enjoy the vic, but be humble in it else you will be considered a poser or a whacker...
