Talking Proofreading in Action: Racist California Laws Target Black Power

Today when I got home from work, a publication from the CRPA was waiting for me:

But what did I find on page 20?

How fitting that we should be reminded so soon after Martin Luther King Day, that King's task--the task of freedom--is not yet complete! The government's legal restriction of Black Power is yet another instrument for perpetuating racist systems of oppression!

it's not in the 2013 41st revision, in which Section 1 part XII is much shorter and only contains one use of the term in question....

I thought it was lighthearted, and it sure made me (and the multiracial barista at the Starbucks I frequent) laugh when I discovered it, but if I'm in the minority with that opinion I'll gladly delete the post and forget it ever happened (seriously).

On a more serious side... Here is an article written by Clayton Cramer:
http://www.keepandbeararms.com/infor...tem.asp?ID=916

Worth the read if you want to correctly paint the original antis as racists...

It starts out like this:
Quote:

The Racist Roots of Gun Control
by Clayton E. Cramer
This appeared in the Kansas Journal of Law & Public Policy, 4:2 [Winter, 1995]. The printed form has different footnote numbering, and a few of the modern sources have been changed from electronic archives to printed versions of the same documents. (There may have been a very few minor changes in wording.)

The historical record provides compelling evidence that racism underlies gun control laws - and not in any subtle way. Throughout much of American history, gun control was openly stated as a method for keeping blacks and Hispanics "in their place," and to quiet the racial fears of whites.

Racist arms laws predate the establishment of the United States. This is not surprising, for blacks in the New World were often slaves, and revolts against slave owners often degenerated into less selective forms of racial warfare. The perception that free blacks were sympathetic to the plight of their enslaved brothers, and the "dangerous" example that blacks could actually handle freedom often led New World governments to disarm all blacks, both slave and free.

Starting in 1751, the French Black Code required Louisiana colonists to stop any blacks, and if necessary, beat "any black carrying any potential weapon, such as a cane." If a black refused to stop on demand, and was on horseback, the colonist was authorized to "shoot to kill...
