Default CA SB 808 De Leon 2014 - requires serial/ID from CADOJ to build - * VETOED *

Moved to a bill-specific thread - this one is for overall discussion

This is a gut and amend from a bill that used to be about Medi-Cal.

The main bit -
Note that there is no definition of 'making ... a firearm' or 'assembling a firearm'.
Noticed that too. This could will get interesting.

BTW, how does this bill affect the criminals? How will this bill reduce gun violence? How will this bill keep the public safe? What is the true purpose of this bill?

Oh wait I know..... It's to help build that database of registered guns and eventually turn all gun owners into criminals.

Well to add to that; the best science available says gun control efforts do not lower crime....

This will be different from the horribly written and basically unenforceable magazine law how? What if I already bought ten 80% receivers, built them into rifles and they don't have a serial number or I already had them engraved with a made up serial number? How, exactly, would Senator DeLeon suggest that law enforcement handle this? What if I have a hundred ARs and AKs that I have built that already have their own made up serial/model numbers?

My taxes are paying for this douche to spend his days thinking up new ways to harass us? DeLeon is such a tool.

Thanks all you fools on Calguns for providing a road map for the commie interns at the Cal Duma assembly to read, when they are not flying rainbow flags at anti American rallies.

The good news is that once the idiots pass this, it is basically unenforceable, so while it will be a threat, there is no practical way they can do anything about home builds without legislating that every previously owned gun be registered, which, I am sure it is on their agenda, but they can do that yet.

All of these stupid idiots writing these laws KNOW that they will have zero effect on crime and public safety.

They are about making it more difficult for people to buy guns, sell guns, own guns, shoot guns. They don't want anyone to have guns, period.

Typical worthless and unenforceable dribble concocted from that dirtiest of rat finks. DeLeon is a two faced communist and dedicated saboteur of the free state.

I hope they nail his *** to the wall the next time he tries to stuff his pocket with campaign contributions.

All I can say is that DeLeon and his staff still don't know squat about firearms

I could run a truck through the loopholes in this. Lol! It doesn't say much about the people who elected this not so smart politician either

Its not about the criminals any longer. They can no longer be controlled. However, they are controlling the politicians. It's about controlling the masses.

Spent the past week in Tennessee doing my due diligence. This time next year me and my PERS retirement and HR 218 credentials will be in another state. Funny how in Tennessee gas is $2.97 and the roads are in much better shape that California's.

3D Printing is great, not for the technology (yet) but just for the fact that it gives chills to every gun grabbing politician.
"Imagine, the masses able to just print guns at will! Oh the horror. Those masses will eventually use those printed guns to oust useless scumbags like myself. OMG, what can I do? I know, legislate stupid and pointless laws to slowly disarm the masses. Yeah, that'll work."

While ARs are not my favorite rifle, thank goodness we have them, they are modular and easy to replicate and home build ourselves without rats like DeLeon being able to do anything about it. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing anti-Constitutional Statists squirm because the cat is already out of the bag.

Maybe someone should tell the "Liberal Gun Club" mentioned in another thread to have a sit-down with Deleon and talk some sense into him.

This guy has nothing better to do other than harass us legal, law abiding gun owners. Maybe we should pool our money together for a PI so we can dig up some dirt on him. You talk about two guys who has it out for us, Steinberg and Yee.

Signed by fall. Effective 1/1/15, I would wager.

There are also lots of older guns that don't have serial numbers. Will this make it illegal for someone to dissemble one of these for cleaning and then reassemble it into a functioning firearm?

Jeez. Why don't these people just stop it already? Why can' t they just go after the real criminals?

Oh wait, I forgot, then they would have to go after themselves.

Really bro? It's our fault that we discuss ways to deal with the bull**** that comes our way? It's the nature of the beast unfortunately. Until we get SCOTUS to put a true definition on the RKBA then expect this to happen no matter what is floating around on Calguns.

Do gun manufacturers have to APPLY for their serial numbers? Sounds like another way to get denied and visited by the ATF.

Basically applying to become a felon.

Come to think of it, this bill is DOA. Doesn't ATF have something to say about serial numbers?

++1 on this one, we have to learn how to STFU. We're just giving them more and more rope to hang us with. Again, all together now, STFU.
