Default Sac County CCW moving

a "trusted source" has informed me that all sac county ccw activities will be moving to a larger facility at howe and hurley in @ two weeks.
.......hopefully this will allow the staff the space and give every visitor easier access.
this WILL be happening !!

The building to which they are moving used to be used by the Fire Department.

Like others have said, it has been in the works for a while. Delays for the move could have been many things - moving equipment, building preparation, network installation, etc..

We'll just have to wait and see how things shape up after the move.

In any case, I always recommend putting a reminder on your calendar at least six months before expiration to check for appointments. If nothing is available, move it a few weeks (or a month) later and check again.

Easier access and possibly no pay parking, that would be a dream come true!

Sounds good, but the primary issue seems (from outside looking in, anyway) to be budgetary--the need for more than the six (estimate) or so people they currently have doing the interviews, typing and laminating the licenses, etc., in order to meet the increased the demand. Does this move address that issue? Maybe some kind of process streamlining, if not a staffing increase?

old bald guy.......once the current staff is moved and established, yes, the staffing WILL be increased. The problem at the current location, even for volunteer staffing.....was there was just no physical space or privacy needed.

Does it look like they'll be fully moved soon? The money I spent on the CCW process so far seems outlandish with no results to speak of other than being in a few databases...

Uhhh no? If I was able to carry already I wouldn't care what the SSD was doing... unless I was trying to get a renewal appointment. I would probably be more pissed in that situation.

UPDATE: due to the outstanding effort of the sacto ccw staff......the move has been completed. as of jan 10, the ccw staff will begin reporting to the new location, and have already started bringing the new office location on line. as soon as new staff members are trained.....hopefully the backlog can be immediately addressed. this is a BIG step people.

I am sure mods will open up, but the big question is for how long....
this is an obvious problem that has been aggravated by understaffing, and repeat ccw holders .
lots of people complain........I have yet to see any constructive suggestions.....

1. Stop listing specific firearms on the license. Authorize "All semi-automatics from .32 through .45 calibers". Same for revolvers.
--don't fall back on excuses like, "but the form has lines on it." Get it changed.
2. Applicants Sign the license during initial interview. When approved, SSD mails it.
3. Accept electronic clearance from DOJ/FBI for backgrounds.
4. Break process into segments: new/ renewal. Segregation of tasks into specialties provides synergies and improves efficiency.
5. Operate on weekends. This increases facility use in off hours, maximizing capacity. (Nov 3, 2012 worked).

Managing a paper flow process isn't rocket science, and they've got to get faster by being smarter. Next year, the 1800+ permits issued last year will be up for renewal.

Cheers.

JR

Thanks for the update on the move. Unfortunately, we can make the most constructive suggestions in the world, but unless we're the ones running the show, none of our input really matters.

Dvrjon pretty much summed up everything they could do to make the process more efficient, yet I'm sure most if not all of those ideas will be ignored.

Do you know how many new staff are being brought on? Are these replacements or "plus ups" to previously existing staff?

Thanks.

Default Still Waiting

I have been waiting to renew my CCW since mid-December. License expired at the end of the month of December. I was told during several conversations and emails by Amber that the new schedule would be posted within the next or two weeks. That was a month ago. She has been very responsive to emails and calls. Been checking daily and no new schedule has been posted. As of today the schedule does not even appear and instead has an apology page. I suppose if I'd my preference I would have liked them to have a waiting list for the renewals during this time. I'm just concerned that once a schedule opens up there will not be priorities for appointments for renewals versus new CCW. That would be highly unfair. Looking forward to this process getting complete. I'm also hoping and therefore assuming that once the appointments are able to be scheduled they have information regarding their new address.

Attn. Sac. Co. Sherriff. If you are soliciting comments for improving the process, how about:

1. Make the LTC's good for 5 years like most other states.
It would free up calendar space and reduce workload.

2. Invest in decent LTC card making equipment.
It would help to automate much of the card making process and reduce staff workload. Two or three of these would do the job. I bet Calguns would take a collection and happily donate the equipment to the SCSD. Then they could retire that Underwood typewriter they are using now.

You should direct that at the State, not the county.. The state is the one that dictates the laws for the Type of permit that's issued, and the length of time.. Not the SO.

And last time i was in they had a "dot matrix" old school printer.. not the typewriter.. LOL

I have no idea why we are required to show up in person to get issued out license......mailing them would free up a lot of resources.

You're not going to see any agency switch to a 5 year license.

PC 26220 (a).

Not to exceed two years. The longer periods (3 and 4 years) are for judges, magistrates, custodial officers, reserve LEO's, etc.

The 5 year thing can be excluded from the list of possibilities.

Tomorrow will be 90 days to do my last final appointment for a new CCW. DOJ cleared the 10th of January. Still no email or snail mail response.

Under 26205, they have 90 days OR 30 days after they receive DOJ clearance, whichever is later.

They used to mail them out up until about a year ago (+/-). I don't see it freeing up anything since they had to type them up anyways. Then there's the problem of chasing down your mailman since a signature was required for delivery.

When was that? I got my permit last year and they were rocking the typewriter.
