Default Coming soon to a CA near you

Hi there. It's safe to assume, that with me posting here, that I am in fact, new.

Here is my situation as it sits. I currently live in Texas, and have been in a long distance relationship with a wonderful woman in California for nearly 8 years now. She's visited me, I visited her, things are great on that end. Things are not so great here in the lone star state, particularly in small towns where small town gossip can hurt people, especially their ability to find work. I won't get into details. Nothing illegal was done, but, people and their opinions.

So... after many long nights of talking it over with my now-fiancee, we've decided it would be best to move myself, and my ailing father for whom I also care for, out to California, where, hopefully, job offers will be better, and at the very least I'll have a roof over my head with the woman I love.

On top of this, safe to say, I own guns. I love shooting sports, I love old militaria. Surplus weapons and C&Rs are my bread and butter. However, the laws pertaining to the transplanting of me, and my firearms, has come into question.

I don't think my bolt action rifles(Turk M38 Mauser and Chinese Type 53) should be a problem, but I have a few pistols as well. An old Bayard model 1908, an Iver Johnson .38 I recently found out through decoding the serial number was made in 1895, and an H&R .32 that I still have no clue as to the date on.

Here in the coming months, you may see me around more and more, asking important questions as I gear up and pack up for the move that will allow me to start my life over again with the woman I love.

Hopefully with the firearms I enjoy shooting, as well.

Keep it easy out there.

Welcome glad to have you here at Calguns and another pro-gun person into California.

None of your guns seems like they'll be restricted in California in any way but I believe there's forms for you to fill out when you first get into the state, within a certain period of time, but don't quote me I am no lawyer.

They used to be a great website covering all the laws of California at the Wiki Calguns foundation information pages.

But that site is temporarily on hiatus/down right now.

So to get that good info you have to go through this web archive link to get some idea of the laws you'll be dealing with, written in layman's terms...

Welcome.

CA has a higher unemployment rate than TX.
It will be harder to find gainful employment in CA, then TX or 34 other States.

Cost of living is also higher in CA, then in TX.
It's about a +15% cost difference from CA to TX.

After you establish residency in CA (obtain a CA DL/ID), you have 60 days to register all the firearms you brought with you to CA.

Firearms must be CA legal (no assault weapons, DD, MG, SBR, SBS).

You can not bring any large capacity (11+ round) magazines to CA.
Magazines must be 10 rounds or less.

Welcome, move within Texas, don't come to California. Everything you listed is not an issue here. But seriously, STAY AWAY

Stay in Texas. People in kommiefornia have their own opinions too. And we know what they say about opinions...they're like a-holes, everyone has one and they all stink.

In fact, you'll probably be talked about behind your back as that "crazy gun nut" who just moved into the neighborhood if anybody finds out you have guns.

JMHO. ( )

Oh, and welcome to CG.

You only live once, I say follow your heart. None of your fire arms are illegal here anyway.

You'll hate it here. Move to Dallas or Houston and buy her a big rock.

Believe it or not, I grew up in Houston, so I know EXACTLY what you mean. I got jumped, beat, and robbed when I was 15 years old, less than 100 feet from my own front door.

As for those telling me to stay away, her brother actually offered me a job.... I was real hesitant to take it for a long while, but.... desperate times. I can't even get a job out here at a freaking gas station! Believe me, I tried. 12 applications out in one day... and zero net return.

My situation almost makes me want to move BACK to Houston, as crazy as it sounds... but what can I say? Out there, it's a roof over my head, a promise of employment, and being with the girl I love.

If situations were different, I wouldn't even have created an account here. Trust me, for the longest time I didn't want to move out there, I wanted her to move here.... but if I can't even get a job sacking groceries.... things are getting tough in the country, man.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I have to take my soon-to-be brother-in-law up on his job offer.... as dangerous as it is working with(future) family.
