The New Ferfrans CQB Modular Muzzle Brake System

The new Ferfrans CQB Modular Muzzle Brake Systeme is a two part system consisting of the performance MUZZLE BRAKE MOUNT + CRD (Concussion Reduction Device) which features a built in quick attach/detach mechanism.

Muzzle Brake Mount Specs:

Weight - 4.0 oz

Length - 2.28"

Brake Thread Pattern - 1/2x28

Caliber - (.223/556)

CRD (Concussion Reduction Device) Specs:

Length - 2.17"

Width - 1.6" Diameter

Total weight of the system combined is 10.4 ounces.

*Can be installed with shims or a standard crush washer*

Introduction

Muzzle brakes are valuable accessories due to the fact that they redirect propellant gas thereby mitigating felt recoil and muzzle movement which keeps shooter’s sights on target while firing multiple shots in rapid succession. The downside to muzzle brakes, however, is that it channels sound and expanding gasses sideways which may be extremely distracting for members of an entry team or fellow shooters at the range.

Thus, there is an unmet need for an effective muzzle brake that has minimal side blast or concussion and to redirect sound to the front of the shooter. As alluded to above, muzzle brakes are not typically used in CQB/urban environments due to undesired side concussion that could be distracting to entry team members shooting next to each other in a closed environment or when shooting prone. We’ve also heard of many complaints about how loud effective muzzle brakes are at indoor and even outdoor ranges.

The Modular Muzzle Device System

The FF CQB System meets the above-mentioned need for a muzzle brake that effectively mitigates felt recoil and muzzle movement while minimizing side blast/concussion and redirects sound to the front of the shooter. It is a two piece modular system that includes (1) a very effective high performance muzzle brake that has been extensively tested in full auto fire, and (2) a ported Concussion Reduction Device (CRD) that attaches to the FF Muzzle Brake using a quick detach mechanism. The CRD has strategically placed side ports that allow the muzzle brake to retain its compensator functionality as opposed to brake shields that cover the brake and negates its function.

With the CRD attached, recoil feels like a slight, straight to the rear push (it's a softer recoil feel, not the typical sharp kick). It is, of course, a compromise between reducing side concussion versus minimizing felt recoil. We believe we have achieved an optimal balance of sufficient brake/ compensator functionality (muzzle leveling effect) and side concussion reduction. The CRD has a quick detach/attach mechanism to allow you to easily switch back to a full brake whenever you.

This is a unique item and there is only 7 left. I picked one up. Did not want the chance of sell out or price increase. Thanks!

Is it me or does 10.4 ounces on the end of the gun seem heavy? How's it feel in real life?

Very cool concept..

This is an interesting device and although the videos posted thus far support the manufactures claims. I would like to hear feedback from some Calgunners on how well the muzzle break functions without the shroud and with and how does it effect overall balance.

I hope someone will post back on there testing.

Cheers!

I am going to remove the battle comp 2. I will test it on a 7.5 AR pistol. I like the battlecomp but no way I can use it indoors. I had another AR pistol with a Noveske which handle the concussion fairly well however muzzle flip was unacceptable. I was looking for a Triple Tap for a while and still not successful.
I figure this is worth a try.

Do you think the weight will be more of a factor due to the pistol config?

I think the claims of first, ony, revolutionary etc are a little out of place. Last Jan Simplstic Shooting Solutions came out with a QD Brakeshield which is the same thing. Might work great but dont claim things that it is not.

that brake shield costs quite a bit for a cuff. the dispersement holes on the one the OP presents, seems a bit better . I had a troy forward blast brake on my 308, for one trip, then it was replaced. all the blast energy was pushed forward, so the impact on the shooter was magnified, more than having nothing mounted on the end. I will try this ferfrans and hope for a 308 version

If you take the time to actually compare this product to the others that some have compared it to you will notice they are all quite different. Some facts to consider if you are to compare them:

Noveske KX3 -

1. Flash Suppressing Muzzle Device
2. Is affixed as a dedicated muzzle device. Installed and/or removed by gunsmith with a wrench or tool.
3. Weight: 7.2 oz
4. Price: MSRP $125

PROS: Price. If you want flash suppression it is a flash hider.

CONS: Very heavy for just a flash hider. Can not be easily removed.

SSS Brake Shield

1. Simply directs muzzle blast forward. Is neither a brake or flash hider since it is not technically a muzzle device but rather an add on feature to an existing muzzle device.
2. The AAC version screws on but employs a set screw that will need to be snugged to ensure the QD Brake Shield does not vibrate loose. The set screw comes with blue loctite applied with an allen wrench included. YHM version screws on/off.
3. Weight: 5oz. (This does not include the weight of the muzzle device it attaches to) AAC 51t Blackout = 4.35oz (Total 9.35oz weight combined)
4. Price: SSS Brake Shield $75 / AAC Blackout $150 (Total $225 MSRP)

PROS: Can be attached to different muzzle devices (YHM threaded or AAC 51t)

CONS: Expensive. The AAC version utilizes a "set screw" to secure and must have loctite applied. If it loosened up during firing that could potentially pose a danger.

Ferfrans CQB System -
1. Muzzle Brake & Concussion Reduction Device (not in any way flash suppression device)
2. Features a unique quick attach/detach mechanism. You can use the brake by itself or attach the CRD quickly if desired. Is not going to rattle loose or accidentally fall off.
3. Weight: 6.4oz CRD / 4.0oz Muzzle Brake (10.4 oz total)
4. Price: MSRP $175 (Includes Muzzle Brake and CRD)

PROS: It is a two part system. The muzzle brake by itself is very effective. Not classified as a flash suppression device so you can use it on featureless rifles. The CRD has a unique built in quick attach/detach mechanism and is marked lock and detach. Very secure lock up when attached. Exterior wall of the CRD is also perforated for additional blast mitigation.

CONS: Weight as it is the heaviest of all three. Only one ounce heavier than the SSS Brake Shield. But at 10.4oz that is not a lot to add to a CQB upper and is not noticeable since it's used more often on barrels 16" or less (AR Pistols, SBR's, Carbines).

Hope this helps.

***BY THE WAY THERE IS ONE UNIT LEFT IN STOCK AT THIS TIME.***
(Still on sale at introductory sale price, last one!!!!)

Side Note:I will try to show a close up video of how the quick attach detach mechanism works on the Ferfrans CQB system if I get some spare time. It is really cool!

Little info? What more do you want to know or see exactly?

Feel free to let me know if I can answer any questions or concerns you might have. Happy to do so. If I don't have the answer I can certainly get it for you from the manufacturer.
