Default Springfield 1911 Range Officer in 9mm

Seems like the pistol is getting press everywhere except Calguns, so in case anyone didn't know, Springfield released the Range Officer in 9mm.

Median price-point seems to be about $825, but of course, it's not on the list.

I wish that had been avliable when I bought my Loaded 9mm. Oh well. I think my next hand gun is going to be a RO in 45. They are a lot of gun for the price.

Cool.

Always wanted a Springfield 1911 in 9mm that's not stainless.

Yep, that's exactly what I thought when the pistol debuted. I purchased a Loaded in 9mm years ago, and had the RO been available at the time, I would have secured one.

Do they use a ramped barrel for the 9mm?

The barrel in my Loaded was ramped, so I'd imagine Springfield employing the same ramped design in the RO.

I don't suspect it will ever be available in stainless steel.

If it didn't have that God-awful LPA cut / adjustable sight, I could be tempted into securing one.

On the opposite end, Harrison manufactured a fixed LPA sight, but I never liked it. Hilton Yam has had a fixed LPA sight in development for what seems like ages, but to date, has not moved into the production stage. I stopped inquiring about it years ago.

If you want Stainless then you'd be looking at the Loaded rather than the RO.

What I can determine for differences:

RO - standard recoil rod, Loaded full length two piece
RO - Steel frame & Slide, Loaded stainless frame and slide
RO - No front slide serrations, Loaded - front slide serrations
RO - Single thumb safety, Loaded ambidextrous thumb safety

This one is going to sell like hot cakes due to its reasonable price point. But if I have to SSE it, I'd stick with the on-roster 9mm model.

Just wondering what the issues are with the LPA cut/adjustable sight?

Might prove financially prudent to simply order a Custom Carry in 9mm for $1,600, which is the equivalent of a Professional. In that case, you get an oversized frame machined to National Match specifications, in addition to a hard-fit barrel, hard-fit slide, and hard-fitment of the all the critical components.

Gotta say the sights/sight cut is what kills it for me; same with the first RO. If it wasn't for that I'd probably already have one!!

This solves that issue for me...

Harrison Custom HD-002-T1 Extreme Service fixed rear sight.

It woulda just come with some Novak Lomount style sights which would need replacing, anyway. The Harrison sights as mentioned above fix the sight problem.

No, it won't make the list. You can SSE it though or buy it through PPT.

No SSE for me. I don't want to even start to discuss how many legality concerns I have with SSE.

I'll stick to PPT.

I got my Kimber SS Target 9mm and never go back. 1911 in 9mm is amazing. Low recoil, dead accurate and in my case, reliable too. I might not use as my defense weapon but it will always be with me to the range.
