Default Annual PRG USPSA Classifier match 1/19/2014

PRG will be having their annual classifier match on January 19, 2014

6 classifier stages to get your initial classification or to improve your current standing.
Last year we had quite a few shooters show up to get classified.
For those bays that require 2 stages, we'll try to utilize 2 short stages and a long stage for the single bays to hopefully even out the wait time.

We'll update this topic as more information becomes available.

Entry fee is $40 for the first gun. $10 for a second gun.

There are quite a few choices when it comes to USPSA classifier stages.
Is there a particular classifier any of you shooters would care to shoot?
We typically select classifiers that meet certain criteria (i.e. stage dimension, types of prop required, etc, etc).
Depending on your suggestion we may use it for the next classifier match.

Do you have to be a USPSA member to shoot the classifier?

Not required to be a USPSA member to shoot this classifier match.
It's a benefit to USPSA members that are unclassified who are looking to get their initial classification or for those that would like to move up in class.
Typically it takes 4 different classifiers to get your initial classification. This match gives you the chance to get classified in one outing (6 classifier stages). At regular USPSA matches they have one classifier stage per match.

We don't have the exact round count but 200 will be more than enough to shoot all 6 classifier stages.

I think you can't use 8 shot minor in revolver until the new rules cut in Feb 1st.

How do they handle shooters looking to classify in multiple divisions? Shoot all stages with one gun and then shoot the next or switch back and forth between guns on each stage?

Is there any difference between joining USPSA prior to the classifier match versus right after? Would the classification go into the records either way as long as you are a member or do you need to be a member prior to shooting the match? Thank you.

You should be able to join the USPSA online and then put your number as "Pending" when you sign up for the match. This will let the USPSA know to look you up by name and that you are a new member.

We have a new shooter squad that's staffed by experienced shooters. The majority of new shooters that show up by themselves or in a group, will be placed with the new shooter squad. If you're accompanied by a participant who has shot a match before, you're welcome to join any open squad.

If you're shooting multiple divisions, it will be beneficial if one gun fits the bill for multiple divisions. The majority of classifiers are limited to 6 rounds before a reload is required so ammo capacity is not an issue.
For example:
A production gun is eligible for the following division: Open, Limited, L10, Production.
A Single Stack gun is eligible to be used in the following divisions with Single Stack mags: Open, Limited, L10, SS.
A revolver can be used for: Open, Limited, L10, Production, Revo.
As for scoring, in the majority of divisions 9mm will score minor power factor and anything larger scores major. Open is the only division you can score major with 9/38 with the corresponding velocity.

To answer scoring and power factor questions you may have:
Power factor is determined by multiplying the weight of the bullet by the velocity and divided by 100. Anything above 165 is major. Minor is 125 to 164.99
Anything less than 125 and you're shooting for no score.

The point structure for USPSA is as follows for major power factor:
A=5 points
B/C=4 points
D=2 points

For minor power factor:
A=5 points
B/C=3 points
D=1 point

Here is a great cheat sheet for USPSA scoring, power factor, classifications, etc.

Shooting starts at 8:30. Possibly a little sooner since it doesn't take to long to setup classifier stages.
As for the stages that will be used, here they are:
99-59
99-63
99-09
13-08
13-06
13-05

I shot the match yesterday and had a great time at my first USPSA match. All of the people out there were very friendly. I should have used my production gun to classify for open, limited, limited 10 and not just production.

Hope to see you on Feb 2. Thanks.

Thank you to all that came out.
We apologize for the match taking so long to complete.
For next year we will institute a different procedure when one participant would like to classify for multiple divisions.
Participants will be allowed to classify for one division on their first go around. Their second division will be done after their score sheet is turned in.
And so on and so forth.
