Default Newbie to the forum, but not to shoot'n

Hi Ladies,

We were at the Crossroads of the West Gun Show today and I stopped by the booth for CalGuns and decided to join.

I recently pulled the trigger on a S&W M&P AR-15 just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. I haven't shot a rifle since qualifying on the M-16 in 07. Back in the saddle

Aloha again windy.

off topic is what a OT standS for and it's where we discuss everything that is not firearms related... from travel, movies, books, ghosts, Bigfoot, Fighter pilots basement, scary stories, dogs, UFOs. (and maybe what they all have to do with each other...?)

seriously.
I did not warn a prior newbie and her initial foray into the OT was a disaster.
lurk in there for a bit.
and then lurk some more.

yes, there are some good people but OT is not for the faint of heart.

Thanks...I am very happy with my AR. I cant wait to hit the range and get my scope dialed it.

We went out in the desert by the Salton Sea. Our buddies have private property out there. We went for Thanksgiving weekend from Wed thru Sunday. I had just picked up my new rifle on the Monday before from Turners.

Good times wheeling and shoot'n

Where do you go?

Friendly advice. Hope that helps. Good luck with your new rifle!
Thank you...I need to work on my breathing too. I actually qualified as an Expert Rifleman in the Navy back in 2007 on the M16. Still got my ribbon

I just need to spend some time at the range with my rifle

Lucky you! You have a private area to shoot! My friends and I have shot at Prado, Lytle Creek, Lucerne Valley (Lions Club Range) and plan on going to Burro soon. We have been thinking about the BLM areas as well, need to do more research.

You might want to double check but I believe Prado doesn't allow centerfire rifles. Only rimfire.

Have you been to Angeles Shooting Range yet? I went up there last week for a class. It was my first time there, although I didn't have time to shoot.

It looks like a very decent range (all calibers up to 50BMG) and it is just 2 miles off the 210 freeway, really easy to get to! http://www.angelesranges.com/rangeInfo/ourServices.php

I want to get back up there as soon as my new AR arrives! I was looking at the S & Ws, but I decided on the Colt. I still need to get some optics for it. Can't wait to take it out!

You should come by Burro Canyon one of these day's. We hold a monthly shoot n que there every month. The next one will be Sat. Jan 25. It's one of the few Calgun's monthly shoots that's at an outdoor range. Plus we do a potluck BBQ. Plenty of food, drinks and guns. Can you ask for more???

The thread is not up yet but keep your eye out on the LA Chapter subforum. It should be posted up soon.

Hey Pally,

To be honest, its been since qualifying on the M9 and M16 in 2007 that Ive been to an outdoor shooting range. Im familiar with some, as in heard of them, but Im use to going out in the Arizona desert and shooting with the man and friends.

My dad was a member of a gun club and we had our own shooting range growing up. Good ole days for me

I definitely would like to check out Angeles sometime.

When do you pick up your AR?

WindyRN:

I pick up on the 19th. I have been shopping scopes, etc...so much information to process! Optics are a new thing for me, so I've been trying to cram on the learning curve to take advantage of the holiday deals. We'll see how that turns out!

Awesome pics on your M & P!

Welcome, also Pala Range just south of temecula has a very nice out door range for sighting in rifles. If you go to one of the weekend matches, they let you go over and sight in at the long range.

If you shoot pistol, they have USPSA every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. Steel on the 5th Saturday of the month.

Ad 3 gun matches.
