Default 6.5 Grendel Steel Wolf ammo

From the 6.5 Grendel website

Quote:
Wolf introduced steel case 6.5mm Grendel at SHOT today.

They brought out a 110 grain FMJ-BT load. Projectile design is supposed to be along the lines of the 5.45x39mm 7N6 with the air pocket in the nose. Muzzle velocity is listed as 2,620 fps.

Supposed to ship 2nd quarter. Price is supposed to be just above that of 7.62x39mm.
I am not sure if I want to shoot steel ammo through my Grendel, but it is nice to know that there is that option.

Finally. This has been supposed to happen for a while now. I will give it a try in my grendelized mini-30. would be nice to have a cache of cheap grendel ammo to keep "just in case"

I feel the same way about feeding that through a gun this nice, but I'm hoping that it will bring more interest and prices will come down a bit on the decent stuff. Though they swear that the poly coating on the steel cases protects the chamber from wear. It is a cheap way to put a pile of the stuff in reserve.

Steel cased ammo is fine for those chrome lined barrels.
I'm interested to see how it runs through as the 6.5 does not exactly have a nice long tapered body like a 7.62x39 does and we all know how well the steel cased 223 works...

I would not run it through my Grendel either.
There must be a bunch of people that want to or Wolf would not bother...

Don't worry, you have lots of time.
Certainly more than 2 weeks.

I had nothing but problems with steel core wolf 223 in the past. Everyone i know has had the same luck with different lots, and guns. however the 7.62x39 stuff works awesome in sks's and aks so who knows. also i never had a problem when i used to shoot wolf through my pistols. the thing that keeps me away from wlf pistol ammo now is the cheap value pack prices on very good WWB at walmart

I'm yet to put an upper on my AR frame so if they can push 6.5 by this--making cheaper ammo so more people buy 6.5 uppers and dropping the price b/c of increased volume-- I may make mine a 6.5 as well. It would make a nice companion to my pet .264.
