Is it illegal to posses a higher than 10 rd magazine in california? If it is can you own a magazine that looks like a 30rd magazine but only has a 10rd limit. It only looks like a 30rd but the limit is 10rds

Yes to both

Illegal for anything over 10. 10/30's are allowed as long as they can not be altered to accept more than 10. Meaning they either need to be riveted or the floorplate sealed.

Wrong. Possession is not illegal. I've got several >10's that I've owned since before the ban went into effect on 1/1/2000.
