My new 581 Series with wood stock and blued steel.

In soft case for first outing to the range. 10 Round Ruger Mags, PMC Bronze 55gr FMJ.

New Nikon ProStaff 2-7X32 (Nikoplex) Scope on Ruger Rings. Also Butler Creek 1" leather sling (for that old skool look and feel).

I have a few goodies on order and some range photos and reports that will be going up on another thread... You know... Perfect 1" groups at 1k yds in high winds and the sun in my eyes...

Looks great! Can't wait to read your impressions on the scope. Love mine, Just waiting for weather to clear up and take it out.I'm currently looking for an extended mag release right now. Waiting on laser boresight to do a rough at-home sight adjustment for TechSight.

Default Finally some updated/decent pics of my Mini.

Just got the FedOrd handguard, no fitment issues at all, just widened the clips a bit to fit wider barrel. Also, had a chance to grab my DSLR and get decent pictures from something besides my BlackBerry. My 581 Mini:

-Wood/Blued 581 Mini 14
-Accustrut 6"
-TechSight USGI-style rear sight
-Federal Ordnance Metal Ventilated Handguard

another version of my mini-14

Old 196-series pencil barrel.

Mods:
Accu-strut
Hogue stock
Williams WGRS Peep/Ghost Ring
Choate Ventilated Handguard
Specter Gear 2-Point Tactical Sling
Some no-name butt sleeve w/velcro pouch and cheek riser (rotated to side due to no more scope)
Wife's nail polish white front blade

I think i'm going to stick with irons.....they're the only thing that seem to work on this rifle (or maybe i just buy cheap optics)

Here's mine so far...

Originally I was going to get a scout rail for it, but decided to just get Warne QD rings and a low-powered variable scope instead.

I'm still waiting on m Choate handguard to come in.

dumped the hogue (hated the feel, stick to clothes, gets dirty), put a factory synthetic stock on. not sure how it will affect accuracy but i'm not worried....it's not a tack driver anyway

took off the cheek rest/mag pouch

it's lighter

Thanks. I haven't gotten the Mo-Reaper out to the range yet, but the front sight is definitely an improvement over the stock one. Very quick to match up. You are corred, 581. My Choate handguard came in. Here it is.

I finally get to join this thread! My step-dad is back in NY and as an early wedding gift he gave me his 189 series Mini-30. He has an exact matching Mini-14 at home. It was the first non-.22 rifle he let me shoot when I was like 9-yrs old. It has sentimental value to me, so I won't be changing too much on it. The only think I added was the Choate guard, and I may add an accu-strut down the line:

I've had this one for many years and just swapped stocks.

- Custom muzzle brake blind pin welded for 16.25" OAL barrel.
- Custom mount with Aimpoint Comp-ML that allows iron sight use.
- Trigger job
- Blackhawk Cheekpiece/pouch

Codger has a sweet looking Mini. I aspire to mimick his fine upgrades down the road...namely the scope and mount. His latest stock is pretty damn sweet too.

Here is my 196 series Mini 14...someday I will add a suitable brother (M1A) to round the mix.

What stock is that codger? Like the brake a lot as well.

*Mini pics*

Those aftermarket mags or factory 10rd mags with 5rd mag floorplates? The 10/20/30s I've seen have the flush metal tab floorplate but the 5rd floorplates that come with the rifle have that plastic humpback one. Either way, the factory 10's seem like a great size as they fit perfectly in a case inserted in rifle.

they're John Masen 10-round mags, i got them from Midway USA.

They are pretty cheap but they seem to work pretty well. I have four of them, they always feed all 10 (they also will load into a closed bolt, and not obstruct charging loaded with 10)

I spray painted two of them flat black (to give make them look more like the 10-round M14 mags my father uses in his M1A)

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/461...55BrandPopProd

I have a couple of old high-cap mags, but they aren't very reliable and need to be repaired.

Finally finished putting my Mini 14 together, I know alot of people will say this and that about putting a BB on a Mini 14, but to each his own. Its a Mini 14 Target model with a Troy MCS chassis. I decided to go the ACE stock due to the weight of the rifle, but I included a pic with a Magpul PRS for those who want to see how it might look. As for the BB, it was a breeze to install. My pictures don't do it justice. Enjoy

Very interesting looking build!

Tell me about where you got the Troy MCS for the Mini-14? And about that barrel and brake/flash hider on the end.

I don't know much about the Troy system, but the brake/flash hider is the harmonic dampener that comes with the Target models (223 only, no 556 on Target models only). You adjust it to adjust your groups. Hope this helps.

I was looking for the tactical model originally, however nobody wanted to take the FH off and ship one to CA. DasBoost is correct, it is a harmonic dampener to adjust your accuracy. As for the MCS, I got it directly from Troy awhile back when they were having their 50% off sale. I have plenty of extra AR parts and eventually this became a project gun. The MCS allows for any standard AR type Grip and Buttstock.

It's not a bad pattern per se, very reptilian; any pic of the digi pattern for comparison?

Just took these, here they are!

Scope is fixed at 3x and has mid '50s production date; the micro-dot and cross hairs are verrrrrryyyy fine and somewhat tough to see at times but it is crystal clear. Clears the taller Tech Sight as well as the winged front blade sight.
