Default Looking for someone to give me the basics in Orange County

I posted yesterday that I am looking to purchase my first handgun. I found out my fathers handgun is a colt .357 MK III. I believe it is from the early 80s. I would like to shoot it at the range with someone from the forum so I can get the hang of it. Id also like to rent some guns and I need to be with someone to rent them. I am willing to pay for your rentals and lane usage as well. Thank you so much this form has been so welcoming.

Robert

Let me know when you want to go. I'll join you.
If you take a handgun with you, you should have no problem renting another

Did you say free rentals and range time!?! Sign me up!

If you're in N.OC hit me up and I'll accompany you. Always great to take new shooters out and introduce them to the hobby.

I suggest possibly taking a gun safety course if you are a newbie. I took one around a month ago at Firing Line of Huntington Beach. It was a 3 hour class on a Sat morning. There was aprox. 1-1/2 hour class time & 1-1/2 hour actual shooting. I think it cost me $75, but was well worth it.

I signed up for a private lesson at oc indoor shooting range. 95 bucks ammo included. Basic and allow you to try out 3 different guns. You can bring your own as well.

My lesson is on Thursday, I will post results.

OC Indoor is the range I normally go to... my wife and I did a private intro lesson two years ago. I thought it was well worth the effort, my memory was pretty patchy from the last time I'd fired a handgun. it was 5 guns though, I think. 22, 38 revolver (2 of 'em because the S&W gagged), a 9mm and a 45. They're probably still out of 22 ammo, that could explain it.

It's not the fanciest but it's not a bad little joint.

I had my lesson today. My instructor was Lisa and she was great.

It was a private lesson and I had a blast.

First there was a sit down to go over general rules and familiarize yourself with the handguns you are about to use.

Then it was grip and stances.

And onto the range.

I shot 4 guns:

22 revolver
Springfield 1911 45
Glock 17 9mm
CZ 75 SP-01 9mm

The CZ is my own gun.

I probably fired about 50 rounds total.

Didn't like how the glock recoiled. The 45 was literally like a cannon compared to the rest. Lisa showed concerned about my gun, since I didn't shoot it before I bought it.

But everything worked out. She told me my groupings were good and I was decent considering I never shot a gun before.

Overall I think it was a good thing I got some instruction.

I think I'm going back there to shoot on Sunday. I got a 30 day pass with my instruction so might as well use it, right?

Below are my targets.
