If a competitor chooses to shoot more than one division/ gun, will they shoot all their guns with their squad or will they shoot ONLY their first gun then be allowed to shoot the others after everyone else has cycled through all six stages?

I believe this issue plagues other matches like Pala Steel where a large number of new and multi-division shoots clog up the flow of the squads and we're there until 4pm.

Could be, depending on the number of shooters, mostly depends on the number of newbies. But normally, if you shoot 2 guns, you will be on the same squad, as if you were 'another' shooter. If I choose to shoot both my AR and 10/22 I would be separated by a couple of shooters, no big deal. But it counts like another shooter.

So provided we balance squads by accounting for multiple guns (as you suggested counting guns not competitors) we should go smoothly.

The match director just shared with me, one of the targets on this Sunday's match.

Pretty Cool

So Kdruff is convincing me to go ---would it technically be okay for me to run a stock iron sighted Marlin 60...as long as I made myself some speed load tubes?? It's either that or a .17hmr Anschutz bolt gun...?

Shiet... I'm gonna lend my 10/22 to some friends joining me.. We'll just separate the shooting order so the next guy has time to load mags.

Just bring more ammo!

For the record, I offered RayPDA the use of my 15-22, but he said it was either his Marlin 60 or a sling shot (.22 caliber). It'll be a hoot if he ends up shooting faster than half the class/division.

Game on!

These matches are really for magazine feed weapons. The reload times for a bolt or tube fed gun will pretty much stall out the stage that gun is on. It would be like shooting an USPSA match with a cowboy gun. Loan your friend the semi auto and have at least 4 (10) round mags. Most guys who will be there regularly shoot USPSA every weekend and 3 gun twice a month.

Guys who shoot like this....

Suggestion. Please add par times to every stage so we can keep the match moving in a timely manner.

Thanks. Having been a part of several inaugural matches, I can tell you that having a fixed par time and easy scoring system like IMG makes a big difference in keeping things moving. I dont know how many are going to show up but I hope Jojo has taken some of that into consideration.

I'll see him tomorrow and ask, but Norco typically doesn't run par times.

FYI - My buddy, who lives in Chino Hills, says Tilted Kilt is now officially opened for business. They're a couple of exits just North of Euclid (the exit for Raahauge's). See everyone there after the match!!!

Jojo has factored this in, and will have Par time on Stage 1

No reason this can't finish at 2 pm
anyone running multiple division should have to run through the second time separately.

Optic? Meaning magnified? Or meaning anything with glass? It has so many inturpitations these days.

Ca-legal?, Pre Ban? Does Ca-legal mean RAW because they are CA legal. Does pre ban mean with BB?

Not tiring to be a smart a** but some of the terms used have multiple meanings.

Yes, if I am running a 0 mag red dot , I should be tac irons.
Or if I run a featureless rifle I should be in CA compliant.

Good question.

For this inaugural match and unsure of the turnout, the MD is only allowing 1 division entry per shooter, just to keep the match flowing.

Thanks all!

Good times! Thanks to all that put the event together.

It was a fun, but long day - our Squad 4 (the 'new' group) was 26 or so people deep, so it took awhile to get through each stage.

It was my first rifle comp, and second tactical/run n gun style event ever, and besides the .22 malfunctions, was a great experience.

A shout out and thanks to Edric (gun fu) Ken (kdruff), Noel, David, Andrew, and all the others I got to meet and talk to.

First off, thanks to Jo Jo and the others for putting this on.
The stages were fun.
A few things I would like to mention that I observed.

6 stages, 6 squads, around 100 shooters. One squad had 26 shooters while another had under 10, spreading the numbers evenly throughout will help things run more efficiently.

One stage was about a 12 sec stage while stage one had a 120 second par time, literally 10 times longer. not to mention the resetting times etc.
Every stage needed a par time, some shooters were taking 3 minutes to shoot a stage, shooting time.

A couple of times certain stages were empty for nearly an hr.

Pre registration, par times and more logical stage design will go along way.
Also placing an even number of shooters on each squad and limiting the overall number wouldn't be a bad idea.

Glad they did PHANTOM STRIKE.

Really bummed I missed the event. As one that has never been in or even to a competition, this was prob a good place to start. Anyone have any video of the event? Just curious as to what I could expect. Any plans for the next event?

Thx, G.

Can you guys keep it down, I'm trying to finish Stage 5 right now with what's left of Squad 4. Some of the guys are starting to hallucinate and pink elephants keep getting in the way.

....All kidding aside, I echo Sofatactical's comments about the match:
+super fun w/ some really good stages
- long long day that could have seen better balancing between squads
+ worth doing again (with the hopes that the "kinks" get worked out.)

I do have to mention that GunFu and Jun, as well as everyone on Squad 4, were pretty awesome and friendly. GunFu and Jun were patient and professional all the way through. A class act along with everyone else that kept score and time (including Medic!).

I thought it was also pretty cool that on Stage 1, when the shooters that were able to hit the clay targets at a 100 yds finished up their run, the gallery gave them a nice applause...and then back to the ribbing and "your mother" jokes. We were all impressed with one particular shooter who was able to finish the stage in what I seem to recall as somewhere around 70 seconds.

Worst part of the day was that I was unable to make it to Tilted Kilt because of how long the match ran. I'll just have to order that "Shaker" the next time (and post the video here!). Hope that's alright with you GunFu

Peace out and cya'll at the next shoot.

PS - in terms of scoring, I'm guessing 25% of the field was "DNF". I missed a stage due to a malfunction and I saw guys starting to bug out at around 2pm.

It was cool meeting all of you , it was fun and I grew envious after you guys were using centerfire. I had to switch out my jam-o-matic 10/22 !

I hung out with Jojo after the match and was pleased with the turnout. He wants to thank you all for coming down and joining the match, he also said, now that he has a reference point on the turnout he definitely has plans how to set up squadding and stages to keep it running quickly and smoothly...... I think we had over 85 shooters!

I Personally wanted to thank the shooters in squad 4 as our squad was a bit lopsided with more than 25. Thanks for the patience and hard work.

See you at the next match!

Is this the regular time/date moving forward? I ask due to conflicting schedule with 3gun. And it's good to hear that you'll be incorporating lessons learned for subsequent events.

If it's the 3rd sunday it conflicts with the X3 Multigun match (Piru). This match would be better on the 1st or 4th sunday. We 3 gunners have been asking for a match of some sort on those days.

The match director at Piru was not happy and generally match directors try not to conflict with each other matches. It is better for both match directors and shooters. I would like to try this match but I would not miss a x3 or LdF match to do so. There is certainly a place for a match like this format, I just really wish it was not on the 3rd sunday.

Dates on which Sunday of the month will be ironed as it does conflict with other 3 gun matches.

You and Jojo are more experienced in rifle/ multi gun matches and now there is data about the match, he knows how to make adjustments.

That is the advantage of 20+ year veteran of match directing and experienced 3 Gunner.

What do you guys think of IMG style scoring? or Look at Horner, USPSA ?

No, please stick with IMG scoring, unless you really want to slow the match.
Plus, a lot of the bullet button shooters elected to shoot 1A to neutralize and minimize reloads. Only IMG scoring allows that.
To keep it from turning into a complete hosefest, you guys did the right thing by mixing in hard cover, no shoots and head shots at 50y. That is how you make IMG scoring work and still be challenging.
Also, can you please review the verbiage on your score sheet? In particular, the penalty for shooting at a target and missing it. The score sheet used a different term for it and I couldn't understand it. IMG scoring is standardized with 'Target Engaged But Missed' and it's a 10s penalty. The 'Target Not Engaged' penalty was clearly understood.
BTW, any reason why you guys haven't gone electronic scoring with Practiscore yet? I shot a local match (much smaller than Norco) in Virginia and those dudes had 6 used iPod touches, a laptop and a router. They synched to each other so there wasn't a need for internet connection. 10 minutes after last shot, they had scores. It was very simple to use and required little investment.
