Default I couldn't find a Ruger 10/22 Target model, so I built my own.

Shot it as a stock 10/22 for the first time up at Burro Cyn last Sunday.
Stripped and cleaned this morning and reassembled a target rifle.

It's a work-in-progress:

Keystone Arms "Trailblazer" Laminated Stock .920" Barrel Channel
E.R. Shaw Barrel .920" Diameter 1 in 16" Twist 18" Blued
Superior Concepts Custom Charging Handle Assembly
Speed Beez Recoil Buffer Pin
Power Custom Titanium Extractor

Nikon ProStaff Rimfire 3-9 x 40, picatinny base, and rings on order.

Future upgrades: bolt work & Kidd trigger

Thoughts and suggestions are always appreciated.

(Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.)

no replies might be because...
It's a 10/22... everyone has one........

It is also practical... no silly crap to giggle about... no disco color... no bayonet... no muzzle brake... just a clean classic 10/22.

Post some 200 yard groups once you get the project completed... show us the before and after down range results!!!

Nice work. I like the idea of them but they definitely seem like a money pit - if you are inclined to always upgrade.

Ruger 10/22 Light Varmint Target models....if you can find one

-most accurate 10/22 model
-perfect balance with heavy tapered barrel
-nice wood stock with sling swivels
-comes with 3.5.b trigger

Put on a decent scope and you're good to go

Well...I think it looks great. By the way, like your signature:

"If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for being in the country illegally ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots."

When I was in school, I once observed a trial in a court in Oregon. A poor guy was being prosecuted for the crime of foul hooking a Salmon. Which means he caught the fish somewhere other than it's mouth. The guy was just trying to feed his family.

The prosecutor even brought in the frozen fish to court!

The jury acquitted him.

Thanks. Yeah, these things have an aftermarket parts magnet in them. A few more tweaks and it will be done.

Okay, I'll play.

My first 10/22 was your basic bargain basement carbine. I then added...
-Tac-Sol X-Ring aluminum fluted barrel
-Volquartsen drop-in trigger assembly
-Archangel target stock
-Nikon Prostaff scope
-teflon bolt buffer
-Skeletonized charging handle

It WAS a tack driver. Had to sell due to medical bills for the kid. Picked up a 10/22 target similar to the one in the OP's pic.

I couldnt get over how HEAVY it was with the 20" hammer forged barrel vs. My old one.

I plan to build another just like it.

One of these years I am going to build up a nice 10/22 from a N.S. receiver. I keep watching these threads and it makes me want to sell an AR and build 3.

As I usually say that strenghtens your statement in this case, 10/22 becomes most expensive, cheap rifle in your collection. But I love all the possibilities that come with it. There are million different ways to build one. AKS, nice build, I love that wood stock!

I've got two ARs...that's enough for me and why I little interest in building a "plasti-cool" 10/22. So what are you waiting for? Part with one and just do it. It's almost as fun a building an AR.

Thanks. Looking forward to taking it to the range soon with a few different types of ammo to see what it likes best.

Other than a hogue stock and tech sights I don't think the 10/22 needs anything. It's amazingly accurate with the stock barrel. At least mine is. I like the trigger too. Maybe I got lucky I guess. Bought it 20 something years ago. I'd just save money for ammo.

I bought my first 10/22 in the late 80s. Had it for many years and then sold it for cash during some tough times. I've regretted it ever since. This rifle is something of a tribute to that one I deserted long ago and I simply love the look of the Target version.

Does look good. Should be a tack driver too.

I have a pair of carbines that are basically stock... I modded 1 with VQ hammer, and both have new buffers. 1 I recontoured the stock to be a 'trainer' for my bolt action 308- the other, I havent decided what direction to take....

They both need new barrels, and I need 1 stock... Yours looks pretty good...

About the only thing I'd do to it from how it currently is is a trigger upgrade.

I like my triggers really, really light for target rifles.

How about a range report? Lots of folks kick the tires on that er shaw barrel and it does have good ratings on midway. So how did she shoot?

Sent while driving at 80mph, eating a Big Mac and using my knee to steer.

Quick question to the OP how much does it weight, I am looking at building a bull barrel for walking and plinking I am trying to keep my build under 8lb with a scope, I already have a bench rest bolt 22lr. I really like your stock as I had already made my mind up on the stock before I had seen yours now it just helps reinforce my idea that this is the one I want for my build also.

What is the approximate total cost of the build including the original purchase? I have a stock 10/22 with a Simmons scope. It shoots fine for what it is - an inexpensive 22. However, if I wanted a target 22LR I wonder if buying a target CZ or other would be less expensive than this approach. Don't get me wrong I do like your end result.

I went with the target hammer forged, laminate stock 10/22. Put in a voq. Hammer and a 6-24x 50mm. Shoots all quality of ammunition descent. It loves cci minimag and stingers. Must seat tighter. It is heavy though...will do .5" at 100yds.

I haven't taken it out yet. Just got the optic mounted last night.

It is fairly heavy, but it's intended to be a bench gun. Sorry, I haven't weighed it - easily the heaviest rifle I own. I haven't decided on a bipod or just a rest and sand bags.

Approximate Cost
Base model 10/22 = $250 w/tax & DROS (Turners Outdoorsman)
ER SHAW barrel 18" .920 16x twist = $121 incl. shipping (Midway)
[yeah...they were on sale for $89 and I missed it, grrrrrrrrr ]
Trailblazer Laminate Stock = $164 incl. shipping (Brownells)
Speed Bees buffer/Titanium extractor/Bolt handle = $60 (Amazon Prime)
Nikon Rimfire Prostaff 3-9x40/Burris Xtreme low rings/Weaver base = $200 (Amazon Prime)

About $795 and I still need to replace the trigger and want flip caps for the scope. Tons of fun and satisfaction included...it will be another week or two before I can escape to the range.

That is an excellent price! About as far as I care to go to buy stuff in person is RifleGear down in OC. Oceanside is a pretty long haul for me to buy a firearm, especially considering that I would need to drive there & back twice (70 miles one way with traffic up & down I-5). I still would have replaced the stock, internal parts and had to scope it. Add in gas and windshield time and I think the difference would be moot.
