if its a pump then yes it is legal in CA. the only thing you can do to a pump that would be illegal in CA is make the OAL less than 26 inches.

Yeah I really did not plan on buying anything for a while because I am on a budget right now. I always wanted a pistol grip shotgun and it seems like they will be banned soon.

pump action guns are not going to be banned by any of the laws that are going through the process now. what will be banned that is a "shotgun" is guns like the Circuit Judge and other .410's that also fire .45LC. if you want a good quality pump action, get a mossy 500 when they are on sale at big 5 then build it up any way you want.

Instead of starting my own thread I thought I'd bump this old one.

So does anyone have any additional info on ASI pump shotguns?

Buds has them for sale for $179.

Machines break and degrade (Does not matter how much they cost); when they do you need to look for replacement parts or look into warranty.

You will have trouble with upgrades or replacements. The Turkish shotguns being import are not very interchangeable.

It looks almost exactly like the Weatherby PA-459 / PA-459 TR, which is also a Turkish import but backed by Weatherby. I'll get the Weatherby if I were you, if something were to go wrong, you'll know at least you'll have a California based company to help you with it.

All of these budget shotguns tend to have rough actions, stiff triggers, and cheap/thin stocks.

The maverick 88 is the best of the bunch, it's basically a Mossberg 500 for $200. As a plus it will take most Mossberg 500 accessories, the only thing that is mechanically different is the location of the safety.

Gotta say that you get what you pay for. Probably a better idea to get one of those CZ Turkish shotguns. That way you get a CZ warrenty at least.

Actually when I was comparing inexpensive shotguns I found the cheapest feel and wobbliest action to be on the Mav 88. The Steven's 320 and 350 (both made in China but backed by Savage) felt appreciably more solid and well put together. So much so that I bought the 350 (Ithaca 37 clone) for my son and another for my grandson.

I have also been VERY impressed with the three Turkish semi-autos that I own. Two are made by Hatsan (a 12G tactical and a 20G youth) while the third is imported by ATI but has no actual manufacturer's markings.

For those that don't know, Mossberg isn't above re-branding an import shotgun and calling it their own either. Their 20G semi-auto is a re-badged Turkish gun. I have held one in my hands and seen the made in Turkey stamp with my own eyes.

As to the OP's question I have never heard of ASI shotguns but a google search gives them mixed reviews.

I decided to call Bud's Gun Shop to find out more about the ASI Pasimax. This shotgun is covered 100% by Bud's for as long as you own it. If anything happens to it, they'll either refund your money, send you a replacement, or fix it for free. For only $200, that's really, really hard to beat. I think I'm going to go ahead and order one. I"ll post another update after I take it out and put a few shells through it.

for that kind of money ($184 + $25 transfer fee = $209) , why not just get a Mav 88 ?
I bought my Mav 88 8 shot for $199 at Big 5 last year.
