Default Buying ammo in the SF Bay Area

A friend took me to the range recently and told me to pick up some ammo beforehand. I live in the East Bay Area and was only able to find a box of 9mm at Big 5 for around $28+tax (50 rounds). I ended up using my friend's ammo and purchased some ammo online to replace what I used (got 200 rounds for about $63 shipped).

Is it even possible to find decently priced ammo at a B&M in the Bay Area?

It is, but it takes work, and not too many folks want to share their sources. It's also one of those things where you need to be in the right place at the right time.

Also, just a heads up, prices at the local places are up- even Walmart. Online might just be your best bet.

Thanks for the tip. I do like to support local businesses when I can. However, I also value my time, so I may just stick to online for now.

I've purchased ammo from the range at reasonable prices. Reed's has 9mm in the recent past four $17 per 50 rds.

Worth a call if you want to buy local.

Try canyon sports in Martinez if close enough to you, I've had the best luck there with the ammo crunch. Ranges usually have the most reasonable prices, online deals are also harder to come by these days....

you got it backwards. too many people share their sources! Makes the shops look ravaged. Used to be, a man could take what he needed and leave the rest for his fellow shooters. Today, folks seem to snap up all stock available and to hell with his fellow man.

sgammo.com has a good selection of things... Sportingmans guide has a lot of offers with free shipping that come around quite often.

walmart is the only place with competitively priced ammo. I have found none anywhere else I find reasonable to buy.

Online is basically the only option until flippers run out of $$

I picked up 1k Freedom Munitions Remans a while back and have had no issues with the ammo. It cost a little more than $0.26/shipped, not bad. They do send 5% off coupons every once in a while too.

Keep in mind that Walmarts in Contra Costa and Alameda counties don't carry Ammo.

East bay = City Arms and City Arms East. 9mm is usually around $15 a box.

Walmart in American Canyon, Fairfield, Vacaville, and Dixon regularly have ammo. Go for a road trip. Skip every Big5 you pass.

Otherwise:
