Smile A great DOJ worker! My hat is off to them.

So I was ranting about the DOJ, and they proved me wrong today. I could not be happier about it too.
The Superior Court had accidentally transmitted the wrong information years ago. This incorrect record was causing me to appear prohibited However I got a great worker on the phone today. She got to the bottom of it, processed my fax, and let me know what I need to do to completely correct the incorrect record. While she could not change it over at the DOJ, she let me know that court could. So tomorrow I have to go to the court and ask them to send in a reversal.

But wow, what a great worker in the firearms division. She assured me I was correct, and that I should not be prohibited and was bummed she could not reverse it herself. But gave me her direct number to call the minute they send in the reversal so she can get me into the green column.

If they were all like her the firearms division would have a great reputation.

I had a similar experience. I spoke to a nice lady that was not only patient but went above and beyond to help me fill in some blanks and get stuff straightened out. Without going over the whole story, it got the ball rolling that set me free (my user name isn't a reference to double tapping, btw).

Not to be too sarcastic but it was nice of them to let you get the gun you were allowed to have, I guess?

I believe that the OP said that a Court screwed up and sent in the incorrect information and that the Lady at the DOJ agreed with him by checking the records and instructed him on getting the court to correct it.

She can't change the information that the court puts in the system so it's not her job.

Actually her name was Ryan. Drawing a blank on the last name though. It sure was great to hear from them that I was right though. Now I just have to be super nice and assertive to the court lady in explaining that they are causing me to accidentally commit a crime. I am sure I can get it straightened out though. Even if I have to go into the court and explain it to the judge. I am so glad I saved that old paperwork. I almost tossed it once because it just kept reminding me I was an idiot as a teenager.

Correct she and her supervisor were not able to change the record, but they were able to point me in the direction and told me how to approach it.

Now if only I could get a refund on my Op Law and DROS $.....not gonna hold me breath there and don't wanna push it.

What are you smoking thinking they make 75k/yr? The top managers, yes; but not the day to day people. A very close friend works at the doj and there are some decent people there. It is like most jobs where a few people do most of the work.

Thanks for posting. Nice to know there are some competent people in the firearms division. Wonder if their learning from all the influx of request and corrections.

It's always good to pass out a virtual 'pat on the back' when you can.

I'll suggest the majority of problems getting notice here come from the policies of the elected head of the Department. That doesn't mean that state agencies do not have their shares of under-performers, but apparently all employers experience that problem sometimes.

You might want to check with your friend to find out what Ryan actually makes. It's closer to 75K than you think. You may be surprised to find out no one is smoking anything. And I won't divulge my sources.

Apparently the women there rock. I had an issue where a gun had gone into limbo for am couple months, and Andra at the DOJ was the one who called me back and fixed it. Super professional, very nice.

Is that a lot? I don't know what the requirements are for that job, but it seems to be roughly on par with jobs requiring a professional degree, especially if coupled with some experience and seniority...

So went to the court, and they think the DOJ should have corrected it on the spot especially sine I had the original minute notes from the judge himself. They were able to pull my 9 year old probation file to the extent that it says completed 725(a) probation (the kind where your not a ward) and have no idea how this happened. They were very suspicious of the DOJ, but I think all of my gun loving county is. And they are doing their best to get it squared away. They said that if the DOJ wont correct it that they are going to have the judge order it so that they will be in contempt if its not fixed.

Geez, I mean really. All this to keep a guy away form his guns he is legally allowed to have as long as possible.

Have we reached the point of too many gun laws and regulations yet?? LMAO

Just waiting to get to go ahead, and I am going shooting as soon as I do. And retrieve my firearms.

You are quite correct and in addition even is she could make changes it would be illegal for her to do so.

Still...props to that DOJ employee...well done lady.

She even followed up with me today, and said that as soon as the court contact calls her she will walk her through the process, and it will be fixed instantly.

Trying to be patient is what is driving me crazy lol! I am gonna call the court contact tomorrow and explain that if they call her it will only take a few minutes and then it will be fixed in an instant I am chompin at the bit wanting to go shooting though. Want to try to long shots with the 30-06 this weekend. I am gonna hit the target at 5 and 700 if its my last bullet that does it

I may be lucky but with the 7 or 8 times I've dealt with DOJ, it's been a pleasant experience. sometimes it just takes a while to hear back but I understand that.

Line record-keeping staff at DOJ BoF when presented with material allowing proper update/corrections do in fact generally perform well.

Our issues are more with the management chain and certain enforcement efforts.

I appreciate the good luck wishes. I think me having the original document is the only reason it has been moving along so smoothly. I am still waiting now though for the court lady to call and sort it out. Poor court lady is just at a loss because they have never had to do this before.

And I found out that apparently I do not have to re-pay the DROS on my lower. But I still have to wait 10 days. And my op-law should just get completed now.

And now I just have to wait 3 days. The court has done all the due process paperwork, so now I am just waiting to hear from the DOJ worker and then I will officially be a non prohibited person.
So dumb that I cannot go shoot this weekend though. Given that they all know I am legal, they have all acknowledged it as well. I should be able to go out and punch holes in paper, but no. 3 days is not so bad though. Its better than waiting the 4 years till I'm 30, or this taking a year, or being lifetime banned.

I just spoke with Ryan at the DOJ. She called me back after I left a message for the DOJ regarding the legality of a particular firearm. She was great. She helped me look up the PC that applied to this particular gun and was double checking to be sure that I was good to go to DROS it to my customer.

I mentioned that I posted on calguns regarding this firearm and she told me how she was flattered by the post about her on here so I had to look it up myself and find it.

Remember all these people at the DOJ are doing their JOBS. They do not make the laws we dislike or don't agree with. I think it was great of the poster of this thread to applaud the good service he got from her. I can say to that it was a pleasure speaking with Ryan on the phone and I appreciated the call back from the DOJ when as a dealer I have a problem.

She told me that when her boss found out about this thread she was commended for her good customer service. I agree with the OG poster about it being a pleasure to speak with her.
