Exclamation APS Tac/Prec Rifle Match 01-26-08

Tactical / Precision Rifle Match
Jan 26, 2008

A Place to Shoot in Saugus, CA will be having its first Tactical / Precision Rifle Match of 2008 on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Registration will begin at 0700 and the first stage will begin at 0730. The match should run until approximately 1200.

The match will consist of approximately five or six different courses of fire (depending on time and number of participants) and will be a combination of precision shooting and tactical application and the ranges will vary between 100 and 900 yards. There will be a combination of reactive targets, paper and steel that range is size from 1 MOA to 3 MOA for the given range depending on the course of fire.

This match is primarily designed for the Precision Bolt Action Rifle, however, if you own a hunting rifle or semi-auto with good optics and feel capable of its performance and accuracy, feel free to participate.

There is some movement during the stages, and targets will be engaged from various field positions in whatever shooting position is necessary to insure a clear shot and in some cases concealment while taking the shot.

The fee for the match will be $25.00 for early registration, $30.00 for match day walk-ons. Plaques and certificates will for awarded to the top three finishers and a medal will be awarded to the top shooter in the 100 - yard dot drill. This is limited to 20 competitors so pre-registration is suggested. If you’re interested in registering or have any questions either PM me through this forum or email me directly at billerwin@msn.com.

i'll go and hangout, but i'll probably not shoot in the match. i'm still in the middle of load developing, and don't know my dope yep. i'm trying to bring my velocity down a little, and see where my accuracy is at.

i can shoot 1/2 moa no problem, and it was on my first load. i'm running a little fast i think, cause my i'm having to do less adjustments than b4. i think i'm going about 2700-2725fps, and want to bring it down to about 2650fps. i know 168s drops accuracy at 2700fps, so i think i can bring it down to .3moa-ish. my round count is about 150rounds. barrel is just about broken in too.

and yes, i do love my rifle. i just wish uso would hurry up. called them, and they are running late on my scope. it should be end of next month. hope they stick to it.

i saw that. the main issue is the 1/2moa elevation knob. if i was going moa again, i would definitely want to stick with 1/4moa knobs. he screwed up when he spent the money on the erek knobs but did it in 1/2moa. great for shooting large targets, but not the best for precision work. bet you that's the reason why he wants to dump his scope.

I'll have to see what happens between now and then. My savage has been neglected since my R+D rifle is getting closer to completion. Heck, maybe I'll shoot it with an AR. I'll let you know twolf.

Assuming the schedule holds, 80 round Across the Course at Camp Pendleton is on the 26th (and 3x600 on the 27th).

Because a fully rounded shooter can shoot any gun that he happens to pickup.
Anyone that has seen me can attest that I am certainly "fully round".

Depends...

Rounded and Round are different things.
Us round guys are just more stable shooting platforms so we become fully rounded when we get good with all 3 guns.

Perhaps you fine gentlemen can tell me how I can become a better shooter. I have a very unstable platform and must get more "rounded" Maybe I should be careful what I wish for..

I'm right there with ya except I started last Monday trying to lose some of my roundness - got tired of my "roundness" getting somewhere before the rest of me did. What I wouldn't give for a Tommie burger or a Pink's dog.

I feel ya. I should be getting rid of a bit of my roundness but the death in the family has caused a delay in the endeavor.

I'm slowly integrating the activities of my previous life (before reloading and precision shooting) into my current one. Gym.. hiking.. pool.. I miss it. Not to mention I'll probably save a few bucks or even make some while playing pool!

You know what I wish was more part of shooting culture? Betting! I think it's just a pool player inside of me talking. "I bet I could shoot through the pumpkin at 100 yds and strike the watermelon at 200 yds" kinda bet. Then of course there are the straight up competive bets like competing for score.

Is it just me?

any betting should be either done on a one shot, one hit type of deal or best of 5 rounds under 1 minute.

Shoot more.
That's it.

I have been shooting between 3-5 action type matches a month for the last few months.
That's why it's been hard for me to find weekend days to shoot the bolt gun too...

You don't shoot enough matches.
We bet on stuff like that all the time.
The bet usually involves who buys lunch after the match.
The time hanging out during and after the match is almost half the fun of competetive shooting.
