Yup, it's me. I joined here a while back (2003 I think) but with a different user name. Recently I decided to re-register and use my usual one... I don't post much since it seems more like a free for all regarding AR's and AK's in here.

Got my M1A back from Springfield Armory's shop today. They did some work on the receiver so my A.R.M.S. #18 mount would fit properly. It has been an epic struggle (nearly 4 years in the making) to get optics mounted on my M1A but I still can't say its over until I get it zeroed. It almost looks like I may be cranking my windage knob to get on target as the mount STILL looks slightly askew

The 20x42 Super Sniper is just a place holder. I really don't need that much magnification but it's all I got until I can find a better scope... preferably something with better eye relief so I do not need to shove my face so far forward to get a decent sight picture.

On a lighter note, I also got a new synthetic stock from Springfield. Much lighter than the previous fiberglass stock with the goofy Mossy Oak finish that I had on it.

^ you know, I was never a fan of the whole 'scout rifle' concept, but that looks pretty darn cool.

Hey all. Here's my my M1A Scout. I've had this baby for years, but here she is with a facelift courtesy of J. Allen Enterprises. Five months wait, but well worth it. Lisa was always very quick to respond to my queries, and just before my stock was ready to ship, she gave me the choice to replace the 1 1/4" Sling swivels with the new 1 1/2" swivels they just got in.

Default Loaded Project Completed - Simple & Sweet

Set aside the wood furniture and installed a fiberglass stock. Love the way it feels. Hope it's accuracy improves accordingly.

Anyone know if Badger 30mm standard/low (.823) rings would be too low for a Nightforce 3.5-15x56mm on my socom 16 with JAE stock?

This is a picture of Millett 10x50mm on Medium rings. Thanks in advance

you might need to remove the scout mount to gain alittle room. from the picture it doesn't look like you can go any lower than the rings you already have with a 56mm obj. you said medium rings but what do they measure? SEI mount?

another thing to remember is how the rings are measured. SEI rings are measured from top rail to inside radius of lower ring (B) instead of ring centerline (A).

badger std height rings, measure A-.823", and B-.232"

badger max-50 ultra high, measure A- 1.45 and B- .859

From SEI,
when used in conjunction with SEI M14 NSN Wire EDM
Mounts, P/N’s 2006 or 2008. For Exit Objectives up to and including 56mm, choose the WEDM Tall
Ring Set, P/N 7010. High Rings -- (0.865”).

from the firing line,

"Try this... stack up some coins on the mount front and back till you just clear the rear sight with the eye piece/ power ring (needs to be the same kind of coins front and back). Then measure the stacks with your handy micrometer, add 15mm or .590 inch and you have the rail to scope center measurement."
Then check that against the badger ring specs.

I remember saying that, it's a really simple method and works. I can't take credit for it though, I got it from someone else who got it from a magazine.

I think Jeffu got it all squared away. That appears to be an SEI Weaver mount so he's ordered some TPS TSR "W" super low rings for the scope. It looks like there's about 1/2 inch clearance on the front end which the lower rings and larger objective will eat about 3/8 inch of that. The eyepiece of the NF is much smaller so no worries on that end.

I have to say... that's the first time I've seen a scope longer than the barrel since the civil war era sniper rifles.

Yeah, I live over in Riverside. I don't post much here since most of my knowledge is on the M14 platform and scope setups for them... most of the people here are into making CA legal AR's and AK's. Right now I only have a Noveske N4 lower I've put together, someday I'll get the upper for it and finish it.

Need some recommendations guys, I just got a 22" Krieger Heavy/CM/1-10 barrel and I'm looking for an excellent M14 armorer (possibly local). I'm in S. Orange county and am considering driving/flying out to AZ/CO/TX to get this done by the best, but figured I'd ask here. Please PM me to keep on topic.

And here she is

My favorite M14 armorer is located in Tempe, AZ.

BTW, what does that tube weigh?

Thank you for the compliment! I really needed to raise my cheek weld as M1A/M14 rifles tend to keep the scope on the tall side. I needed 1.5" of rise. My buddies M1A requires a full 2" of rise due to his giant scope and tall mount. I tried strap on cheek risers and just didn't really like them (on this rifle). I contemplated getting one of those adjustable Kydex cheek risers, but I didn't want to cover up the beautiful walnut. It would have destroyed the character of the weapon. I think it turned out better than I expected. Looks great and is super functional.

Very good price for a SOCOM with the rail. You going to put a scout scope on it?
