Default New Laws and people coming out of the shadows

Now that all of these draconian laws are passing in California, I find it pathetic that everyone is coming out of the shadows.

I am seeing a constant stream of posts about how a particular law will impact their C&R, or their magazine for a specific rifle/pistol or a shotgun etc.

It is pathetic that now they hear some rumbling that some law may impact their firearm, NOW they come and express anger and wonder what we can do to fight it.

Day late dollar short folks. Where were these people 6 months ago?

Jumping off my soap box.

That's how we all got into this mess to begin with, right? People that only hunt with shotguns don't want their gun bothered but they don't care about those "assault rifles." Apathy is everywhere.

I look at all the threads people are posting and it makes me angry actually. I have been fighting the fight for years now and these idiots did not show up. Now that their specific interest will be impacted, they come here and post about the stuff they are hearing at the LGS or from their friends. The sad part is these folks will disappear as quickly as they came.

Not only that, but they come here and blame the NRA and the Republicans for this.

That's unfortunately how most people are...they only complain once their affected.

I too get pretty pissed when I see all these new threads *****ing about these new laws from new members.

Not all gun owners are gun enthusiasts and actively following this legislation. I'm surprised at the number of gun owners, especially older people, that have no idea they are about to become criminals. For the average gun owner, these bills aren't even on their radar and get little to no mention in the mainstream media.

Not sure about 6 mos ago, but prior to that many of those people were voting for the politicians who promised to pass the laws they are now whining about. Some of those same people will vote for those same politicians again.

Ugh.. we bemoan that not enough people are taking action, up to speed and aware, getting involved or even know what is going on and then when they attempt to, even if "newbies" people poo on them. You think you would be happy they are now attempting to get involved or up to speed. But noooo...

Sure Glock, only if they would stick around. Just take a look at the first page of posts in the 2A section. Earlier this morning I counted 5 from people complaining about how a specific law was going to impact them.

Sure, I am happy to have more people join the fight and I hope they stick around. I would bet 4 of the 5 folks will fade away as soon as the bills are signed into law.

I understand the frustration. I see it as another person joining the fight. Another person that might spread the word, donate, volunteer, or join one of the gun right orgs. I think we should encourage them to do all those things and to get people around them involved and so on. Not long ago I was one of those newbies. Now I volunteer, donated and joined gun rights orgs. I've done the same with people around me. We still have a war to win.

Understood and maybe so & I get the annoyance to some degree BUT what about the people that they then may and go tell about what they learned or the website they were on? Their effect of coming here may have farther reaching benefits than there 1 or 2 posts. At one point, we were all new here. Some will come and stay, some will bail, threads like this... surely will make some bail. Rather than seeing how dire things are, and considering getting involved, they have to wade through the poo of getting made to feel unwelcome.

Completely agree. Unless you're on a gun forum or a member of the NRA, you are not hearing about these proposed new laws because almost nobody in the media is talking about them.

I myself have been an enthusiast for some time, but just in the last year started checking out some forums. After seeing what crap was coming down the pike, I then joined the NRA and started writing letters. Had I not gone to some online forums, I probably still would not have heard of all the pending legislation.

HELL YES. They are not members of the NRA and complain loudly that the NRA hasn't been doing the job "they" expect, so they won't join until it does...ROFL... Talk about "putting the cart before the horse".

They are losers and unfortunately they are dragging the rest of us who have been fighting all these years into losing the war with them.

++++1

Most of these people are selfishly voting their wallets , not their rights and the constitution. Just look at all the public employee unions and how they are "voting" their members money...the police/fire especially.

Never forget, "elections are advance auctions of stolen property" and the liberals in California are leading that charge. A long as its "someone else's guns that are going to be effected, or someone else's taxes that are going up, they vote the liberals and want the benefits/ largess.

Taxation and Revenue

Too many people see economics as a zero-sum game, despite ubiquitous evidence to the contrary.

Ah. Yes. You must be referring to this one that popped up last night.

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=818335

I'm still waiting for the OP to tell me where he all of a sudden heard buzz about the new laws. He's fairly new with 50 posts but I'd like to know if he just didn't see the banners at the top of the page or if he received his info at the LGS or by ???? We've beat this horse to death, but idk. Still wondering where the people came from last minute.

I'd agree with not trying to scare off the new guys. My pet peeve is the ones on CG who have been here awhile and didn't pay attention to the banners, announcements, signatures, emails (if you are on the CG email list) etc.

First they came for the full autos but I didn't own a full auto so I didn't stand up,
Then they came for the "assault rifles" but I didn't own an "assault rifle" so I didn't stand up,
Then they came for the "high capacity" magazines but they granted me an exception on the ones already in my possession so I didn't stand up,
Then they came for the handguns they thought weren't safe, but again granted me an exception for the ones I already owned so I didn't stand up,
Then they came for the semi-automatic firearms, but at least they let me register the ones I already had so I didn't stand up,
Then they came back for those "high capacity" magazines, the ones they said I could keep and I'm like OMGWTGBBQ!!!
Will they come for my revolvers?
Will they come for my off-roster handguns?
Will they come for my fixed-magazine semi-automatic rifles?
Will they come for my repeating firearms?
I don't even own a muzzle-loading rifle, should I get one now just in case I need to stand up for when they come for those too?

Nasty thread.

Your allies are your allies whether found early or found late. Not good to attack them.

If we didn't find and enlist them earlier, then that may be as much our fault as theirs.

Welcome your friends and disparage your enemies. If they will fight alongside us they are our friends no matter when they found us (or we found them).

very true... most gun owners do not understand what's going on at the state/local level, even some dealers and their people...

i saw a man in his 70s walking around at a gun show recently with a card board sign around his neck, offering his street sweeper shotgun for sale and he had no idea that it's been banned over 12 years ago...

there's a real need to get the message out to these people, especially older ones, who are more active voters...

so, as a gun enthusiast, you want to become even more elitist and kick out those less obsessed than yourself? Until when, when you and a few buddies are all that's left? Great attitude, sounds like the old guys at our shooting club.

Quite the opposite Chivo. I want everyone to be involved and fight for my rights as much as I fight for theirs. Not sure how you were able to manipulate the postings into that. We are all in this together and divided we will all fall.

The point is that the line is moving and the politicians in CA will not rest until EVERY gun is gone. They are not going to stop at my semi auto. Your bolt guns and your friends muzzle loaders are next on the agenda. When that time comes my involvement in the CA firearms will be long gone and you will not have me to help you fight.

The tactics these grabbers are using are divide and conquer.

Keep in mind some members are younger, or they've only recently purchased a gun or started researching the subject. And as another member said, very very few gun owners seem to stay up to date on legislation. I'd bet a lot of gun owners are either currently in violation of some law or will be shortly, because they're clueless. Yes, we need a lot more gun owners to become more active, at the very least by joining the NRA. But the groups you're specifically referring to -- the long time gun owners who don't care about other gun owners or anyone with different toys than theirs... I agree, these guys are major d-bags. For everyone else, even if you're late to the game, WELCOME!

It's a bad attitude for sure, but it stems from frustration for sure. It's definitely wayyyy less stressful to mentally check out in life and ignore the laws and problems coming down the pipeline. As weird as it sounds, being a regular member on CGN and tracking legislative activity every session can get really stressful. I used to track the stuff way more and would even watch the California channel. After a while it made me too sick and stressed, so I stopped. Tempers are going to be short around here while these latest bills are going through. But I agree, we should not continue to berate the people who are finally deciding to get involved. But we also want them to realize it's the complacency of gun owners that has gotten us in this situation to begin with.

Most of these noobs are not going to join the fight. They're only here to make sure if they're affected or not. If they're not affected, they'll just disappear as quickly as they appeared here and be on their merry way. If they are affected, they'll simply comply with the new laws.

We all realize we are on the same team.

I think the main point is how under the radar these new laws are. Just take a look at main yahoo page & you will see what they think interests the masses.

Sad but true.

Also, you do realize how confusing these laws are? Not just 1 to worry about but multiple.

Big question should be how to we get the message out to the masses who would vote and help our cause?

NRA seems on the surface to put dressing on the problem. 99.9% of the time they ask for money. I 99 % of the time give them $. I probably paid for 5 lifetime memberships by now. After a while kind of a turn off getting phone calls about what politician is passing what law and give them money to stop this. In the end my $100 bucks doesn't seem to make a dent.
Getting off topic, nuff said. Keep fighting and stay strong.

The NRA only contacts the people who are already members. If that is only 6% of the gun owners, what about the other 94%? These are the folks that are coming on CGN and ask the questions. Realistically how many (what %) of Cal gun owners have any clue what is about to happen to them? I would say the number is less than 1%.

This. I would also like to add that, just as we all are on edge, frustrated, and feeling very threatened by all of this, now (more than ever) is the time that we all need to consciously make the decision to stand together. For the time being, I would ask that all put their differences aside, and join in working towards a common goal.

We can resume arguing 9mm vs 45 at some point down the road.

Right now, we all need to work together.

best,

g

Funny how you cannot make others think do as you think and do. Just do what you do best and not waste time trying to control others.

People tend to resist control, yet they are so attached to the idea of control.

Kind of how lawmakers are destined to be complete a-h0les attempting to impart control on their "subjects".

We need less laws not more. More benefit of the doubt for the individual's common sense and less fear of these unbridled masses who's penchant for evil is exacerbated by the media.

Spilt milk now.

Get them in the game. Get them to join NRA.
Get them calling their state reps NOW!
Get them to urge Brown to VETO.

I know it's frustrating so late but do NOT turn away a new resource.
