This sucks.

Yep saw that yesterday, all the larger wholesalers relayed that out.

Interesting to see how many are effected.

Anyone have details as to what exactly is the issue with lower trigger?

Any what is S&W stance on SSE pistols if it required us to send back to factory for repairs?

Just saw this.
Will S&W ship these back to guys in CA? Being that they had to obtain them by SSE?

Might Suck.

If you legally bought the pistol (e.g. SSE) they can send it back to you after the repairs are complete.

Hope mine is not affected. It was built in July. :-(

The only problem should arise if they have to replace the serialized frame. If they just repair a part, or replace a part, but you keep the same serial number, there's no need to DROS and all should be fine.

There's been a lot of confusion about this, but I think the problem only happens when a gun is being replaced with a "new" gun, which has to satisfy all the legal requirements.

I believe you only run into problems when they have to replace the frame (new serial numbers). If it were me I'd do the work myself and eat the $10 in parts. I don't like sending my firearms through the mail. Personal opinion, thats all.

I am glad I got a 40c last year, instead. The Shield is on my want list, but not yet. Being an early adopter isn't for me.

While it should be that if the frame is not being replace with a new one with new serial number, they should work/repair the gun and mail it back.

Recently Sig decided to be "special" and regardless of whether a new serialized frame is needed or not, if the gun is not on CA roster, kiss it good bye if you sent it back.

Hopefully S&W doesn't not follow's Sig's horrible philosophy.

Apparently there were a batch of trigger assemblies missing the spring in the hinged trigger. It's a relatively simple fix if S&W would send you a new trigger assembly. But while M&P's are easy to work in when compared to a 1911, they are a bit more complex then a Glock.

FYI, this doesn't appear to be a problem that develops over time. You either have the problem or you don't. It's because of the missing spring.

WOW that sucks! I'd be livid if I sent a gun in and they refused to send it back.

Bought two Shields when they first came out, April 2012, consecutive serial numbers. Just checked both and on one it is GTG, the other one, nope. Called S&W, they took my info and said to call back next Monday.

We were just sitting down for dinner last night and the phone rings. It's an employee at PRK Arms, Visalia where I bought my 9mm Shield early this year.
He informs me of the S&W issued Safety Alert regarding the Shield's trigger and invites me to bring my Shield in to the store for an inspection. I told him that yes, I was aware of the situation and had already checked mine as per the S&W instructions and found it to be perfectly functional. The employee still offers up the inspection and I accepted as two positive verifications are better than one so I set up an appointment for next week to have the Shield looked at.
I commend PRK Arms for contacting me and I hope other gun stores that sell Shields are doing the same.

Lucky it's easy enough to check if your Shield is one of the ones that needs to be sent back.

No big deal. They got a batch of bad trigger bar pins. All the manufacturers have occasional problems. The measure of a company is what they do about the problem when discovered. S&W is stepping up, paying all costs, not trying to hide anything or dodge responsibility. This is how they keep their reputation among the best customer service in the industry.

If anyone is still interested in the 9mm Shield, my lgs SGCUSA.com has 18 remaining at a new price of about $380. Before this price they had them at about $450.

Friday night they had a lot of 102 Shields. Selling like hot cakes. I've yet to pick up the 2 I bought, but from what I've read, a S&W rep went and inspected all of these pistols.

An Apex Tactical aftermarket trigger would resolve this issue! Get going Apex. We want a new trigger for the Shield's like the rest of the M&P's!
