how about one big mess with a sort option to make sorting easier and the way the person searching requests it (i.e. sort my make/model/caliber/rifle/pistol/shotgun/etc.)?
I do like the way it is right now however...

I think I like the Long/Hand gun split, with location requirement. Max one thread per category.

This is what should be added in my opinion as well. Having the sellers location in the thread title will make browsing so much easier. This rule should go for the ammo sales as well. I search private ammo sales on a daily basis and have to open every single thread just hoping one of them will be in my local area. If there was a location in the title, I wouldn't have to waste so much time viewing each one. Same goes for the rest of the market place.

The divided Nor-cal/ So-cal section sound like a good idea, however many sellers may still make the mistake of posting threads in the wrong category and/or posting in multiple sections.

Who agrees that we keep the guns all in one, but "add location in title" a requirement for selling in all of the marketplace? (firearms, ammo, Parts & Accessories, non-firearm sales)

Its all good. One thing I'd like to see is the ability to "save search" so anything we are seeking will pop the thread up
And a big thank you for your efforts to bring this site to us

Location mandatory. That would be a great improvement. Leave the rest alone.

I like the long gun / handgun split. I love to buy and this makes it easier to sift through the 10billion AR15 postings when i am in the mood for a new pistol or revolver, however, I wouldnt cry (for too long) if it switched back, but please dont

i like one combined for both rifles and handguns (same as before) - easier to 'go shopping' but add the requirement for location in title... imho...

I understand the "Marketplace is getting crowded and full, but I absolutely oppose the division by Handguns / Long Guns! Such division is playing into the game of the gun control crowd, who, for a long time, tried to isolate handguns from long guns, so as to make it easy to "eliminate" (refer to Proposition 15!). For our purpose, and for the defense of the Second Amendment, a firearm is a firearm and, as far as I'm concerned, I wish the National Rifle Association would be called National Firearms Association! (Sorry Wayne

I am involved with other forums that have a private sale section and some of them are so active that the mods had to break them down into categories and I have always found it much more convenient this way. Some people like change and some don't, its all a personal preference and will be interesting to see will this goes.

For an example: overclock.net (pc forum) used to have one big section, but eventually got some much traffic that threads just got lost in the mix and having to scroll for hours on end became a nightmare. So what did they do? broke all the computer parts down into categories and everything was much easier to manage (with mods helping out of course). This is just an example, I am not saying that we break every model pistol, shotgun or rifle into its own section, just an idea for the future of Calguns.

I will stop rambling now..

I respect everyone's opinion here, but don't you think your over analyzing this issue a bit too far? I think because of the over crowding of sales, Calguns just wants to find a way to make it easier for the buyer to view them.

Why don't we just have a sale thread for every section in firearms discussion? Centerfire semi, centerfire manual, rimfire, shotgun, handgun, etc. C&R already has their own, why not?

SF bay and south is southern cali to me....... of course the state should really be split into 3 and use central cali .... then you could really tell if you could meet with the person without a 5 hour drive..... the long gun hand gun split is good but how do i bump my handguns for sale now that they are in the long gun for sale section?.... instructions would be good..... everything together was also good..... could the pages be longer though?.... maybe show 100 items on a page?

by the way calguns ROCKS!!!

You know the old .gov saying...If it ain't broke, fix it till it is.

I liked it the old way. There were times I bought a long gun/Hand gun when I wasn't even looking for it. I saw it at a good price and impulse bought it.

I agree with "City" in the thread title though.

My opinion: It wasn't broken. It didn't need a fix other than actually enforcing the rules already in existence and *maybe* modifying the location rule to include the city in the title. I say return to the past, go full Putin and delete more threads. No location? Gone. Feeler thread? Gone. Posting the same items under multiple accounts? Gone. WTT thread without an indicated value? Gone. Starting a new thread every day and deleting the day's previous? Gone. People will get the idea.

But that's just me. Carry on.
Outstanding!!!

Personally. I liked it as a joined thread, how it was before. I agree with a mandatory title of the city as the first or last word of a title. Not even nor cal or so cal, specific city, nor cal and so cal are big areas to generalize.

at least require the seller to put their county in the headline of the ad. it's extremely frustrating to see something I am looking for and then only find out that it's 300 miles away.

I have no big preference between long guns or by locality but I feel that there should be a change. What I see now is that posts are not buried into multiple pages downstream because all the posts were in one forum. Now that handguns are separated out, your post will stay more current in either form and therefore easier to find.

Back to the old way. I could see everything that was for sale in one thread, without flipping back and forth. More people saw your ads too.

This!

North or south doesn't mean much as many have eluded to with the shipping option, but some calgunners traverse the state on a fairly often basis and are able to put deals together all over the place.

I like the idea of splitting up the marketplace because it's much easier to do searches. (dont care if it's by gun type or location)

as we get more traffic, the split seems logical and inevitable.

I know my pistol is now in the "long guns" section when it should be in ............handguns?

Here is how I think the classifieds should be done.
The North and south thing means nothing to me because I am not going down to san diego from orange county for a gun, not worth 2 trips.

I think most of the problems would be fixed by requiring a location or zip code in the title and make the forum so that NOBODY CAN POST ANYTHING!

This will eliminate thread crapping and argueing over who was first to say I will take it. PM only

Good gawd, when is the forum going back to one large handgun, and long gun thread? My buddy just bought a pistol that was in the long gun forum, which he bragged about to me, because its the one I wanted it, for so long! I don't know I like the rule of k.i.s.s. , still seeing plenty of incorrect NEW post everywhere, like this one , this one , this one, and so on. On addition to that split, location split requests?? How hard is it to use Google maps to find out where a place is? It seems to me, the single large gripe that I keep seeing, a SoCal , and NorCal split. Use a map!!

Can we make the location split happen soon? I dont know how much time ive spent looking for a things to find they are not in my area. (Yes, rules say everyone should put the location in the title, but it rarely gets put there and searching can be frustrating.)
It doesnt matter what awesome thing someone is selling if I cant get it! (my .02)

So the more complicated it becomes the lazier people get. As is the long gun, and gun split people still double post both items, or just completely in the wrong one. The more choices given such as Craigslist , the more you're more likely to have Craigslist type postings. I've already seen it happening, posts with keyword searches hidden by Ccs code coloring to blend in the forum color. Imagine all the posts that may be out for "maximum " coverage cross posting in all the regional, locations, long gun, handgun, and not to mention just people who don't carefully look where they post, then end up in the wrong thread all together. So instead of looking in one large thread, if the above happens, which it is happening a little bit, you're going to have to check 4 or more threads to make sure you didn't miss something local to you. Does that sound appealing, it sure doesn't for me. This negates the members who say they get "annoyed" at seeing something but it was not local to them. Well are you going to be more annoyed searching all those forums now?

yet an other great example of how people "post in the correct forum"

I'd vote to leave it the way it is.

NorCal/SoCal split doesn't make sense to me for two reasons. First, it doesn't deal with sellers willing to ship, since in that case where they are doesn't really matter too much. Second, both regions are still big places so it won't eliminate the "I'd really like to buy that but the seller isn't willing to ship and I'm not going to drive that far" situations.

A handgun/long gun split would be OK, but I usually am looking for something specific, so I usually don't "window shop" the Marketplace, I search for a specific gun (or whatever) that I'm looking for.

Keep long gun/hand gun split.

Require city, or at least county, in the TITLE of the thread.

If location is not in the title of the thread, delete the thread, no questions asked.

People will learn, and it will be easy for everyone.

Really, you are basically calling me lazy due to preference to see the listings in a way where i dont have to spend hours to find out if there are only 3 things available in my area? Nice

Im perfectly happy with long gun and hand gun being in one thread section... as I usually am interested in both. However Ive spent over an hour searching through all of the listings to find only 3 things fit what im looking for and in my region. Yes, id like to save time! ive found tons of listings that i would like, that happened to be over 8 hours from me... therefore useless to me unless i want to drive/fly to get it (twice if i have another 10 day wait.)
