As I started to discuss on someone else's Internet Filtering thread, I found that T-Mobile always blocked guns websites. Here is the generic information they have on the Phone Controls Web Guard screen:
Child: Recommended for all ages. Content in this categories contains little or no sexual content, situations, or themes; no strong or coarse language; no alcoholo, tobacco or drug use; and no gambling. Some websites may contain minimal cartoon or fantasy violence.
Teen: Recommended for age 13 and up. Content in this category may contain mild or infrequent violence; sexual content, situations, or themes; profanity or crude humor; alcohol, tobacco or drug use (not intended to encourage use). This category may also contain simulated gambling.
Young Adult: Recommended for age 17 and up. Content in this category may contain frequent or intense graphic violence, sexual content, profanity, and crude humor.
My wife and I are set for the Young Adult filter. Calguns.net is blocked "Content restricted" but no details on why. I don't see anything of the filters above talking about firearms. The child and teen filters mention levels of violence allowed, but firearms aren't violent (but perhaps T-Mobile thinks they are). I can't see why Young Adult would block based on violence at all - in fact, I'm not even sure what Young Adult does filter on (I picked it hoping for some basic malware protection).

What categories are completely restricted with the Web Guard feature?
Argh, really? So it appears that if you have any level of Web Guard enabled, you lose all access to weapons, guns, and ammunition sites. So the T-Mobile rep said I should contact them in writing in order to ask them to change this feature:

Anyone else have some comments as to what I should write? I mean, I know I can completely turn off the Web Guard - but I want it on, especially for my kids - but I don't want Weapon, Gun, and Ammo sites blocked. Further, I want T-Mobile to not have an anti-gun filtering position.

You: I know I can turn the Web Guard off, but I want some basic protections for my phone. I don't understand why the "Young Adult" would block a gun website.
Alejandro T: I understand. Basically, web guard is set up depending on the sites category or access level. Young adult in a sense that it exemplifies information like Alcohol, cash gambling, pornography or Weapons
You: I understand. Is there a way to see the full policy filters for a given Web Guard level? Weapons are not mentioned in any of them.

Alejandro T: You may actually request if you think that the site you're refering to doesn't need to be included. T-Mobile uses a third party vendor to assist in reviewing and blocking content for the Web Guard feature. T-Mobile’s third party vendor maintains the list of blocked URLs. Although T-Mobile does not comment on specific content, we do provide a tool to capture and provide feedback to the vendor. Your feedback will be reviewed and evaluated by our vendor, but, at this time, there's no procedure to provide specific feedback on your concerns.

You: Right, but this is the T-Mobile policy to always block Guns and Ammunition. How can I address that policy to have it changed or be an optional feature?
Alejandro T: What I can recommend Jason, since your feedback is important and we want it to be heard. Short term solution will be to write an email for that specific site to be unblocked. Since you prefered a site involving ammunitions and weapons to be unblocked, you may write a letter directly to our customer's relation and we can assure you that an immediate feedback will be sent to you. Our dedicated agents and support team will provide you and discuss to you if that particular category cannot be unblock or not.
