Default Beginner Skeet.

What is a good choice shotgun for a beginner of skeet or trap. To start i would like to keep the price of the shotgun under $500. Would Big 5 be a good place to look?

I recommend renting first. Rent an O/U (over/under). Rent every single one they have and get some lessons.

I don't know if there are some skeet clinics in the SD area, but those are usually the least expensive training option.

This clinic is held here in El Monte (LA area). Only $20 + targets/shells. I think they have some shotguns you can borrow.

Have you ever shot skeet or trap before? I recommend renting and trying it out before you go buy a shotgun.

^^^^^^ THIS!

Not only will you get a bang on introduction, but Coach Don and Capt. Dick will make sure the gun you borrow from them will fit well. Fit and mount is the key to a comfortable experience. When you have gotten your gun, and attend another clinic, they will spent time and fit it too.

I have only been shooting a few months. I have signed up for another clinic on 8-25. Best money spent so far.

Some info for ya

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=425953

Along with the above:

I will add ...look for a shotgun with interchangable ckokes, 26" or longer barrel, standard field/ hunting furniture.

Keep in mind while your can use one shotgun for both skeet & trap by changing the choke tubes sooner or later you'll like one over the other, that said rent as noted above you may end up liking one over the other.
For skeet I prefer a 20 ga. trap I shoot because some of my friends like it.
But 5 stand now there a game.

I agree with the other posting... I like 20 gauge on Skeet. You will need either a double barrel or a semiautomatic. A pump will be a challenge.!

Skeet: Hard to learn, easy to master.
Trap: Easy to learn, Hard to master.
I think sporting clays is the best game.

Correction: AMERICAN skeet: Hard to learn, Easy to master
INTERNATIONAL skeet: Hard to learn, Hard to master, the most fun
