Default Finally got one

I just traded for a Chilean Model 1912 Mauser Rifle. Made my Steyr too. Been looking for one of these for a while. Me so excited.

All matching numbers and no import marks, except for a really tiny stamp, "7mm" on the barrel.

Just some quick pictures for the night.

It's nice to finally acquire something you've been looking for.

Yes, there is the Chilean proof stamp on the left side of the butt. It is half worn-away and half-sharp, so I don't know what to think about that.

That sounds like a nice rifle, Em. Is it the long or short rifle?

By Chilean proof stamp, do you mean the Chilean crest, or is there a different proof stamp?

Steyr got the contract in 1912 do to war preparations in Germany. WWI was right around the corner and the Empire wanted to have as many of their own service rifles as possible.

Still, the South Americans wanted new guns and the Mauser comapany had to make sure they didn't buy from the US or Britain, so the branched out their contract.

It is practically an exact copy of the German Gewehr 98, but this one is in 7x57mm Mauser and had the modern ladder sights that the Germans went to after the War.

I wish I had a bayonet. I have one for my 1895 Chilean. I think LibertyTree had them for $55.

The crest on mine is the same as that one, but the number in the box is a little different looking. It is a full rifle.

Here are two more pictures.

I am having a heck of time getting the whole rifle in one nice shot.

I've got both a long (29" barrel) and several short (21.5" barrel) 1912 Steyr Chilean Mausers. Is yours the long or the short?

The cartouche I posted above is off an 1895 Mauser. Here is one off a 1912 Steyr...

Mine is the full length rifle.

And that cartouche looks much more like mine.

Congrats Emdawg! Glad you were able to get one of the rifles you have been searching for.

Getting the long rifles in a pic can be quite a trick. You have to stand a few feet away and try to zoom in if you can. A tripod helps if you have one.

I will try to get one soon.

Also, I believe that it has it's original sling.

That is one good reason why Mausers are so fun to collect.
