Default .17 Winchester Super Magnum Hunt Report

I know there was some talk about the .17 Winchester Super Magnum. Now that the Savage rifles are out and the ammo is shipping, I wanted to update my SHOT Show reports with an actual hunt report. I got the rifle from my FFL this past week and was able to head out for a quick hunt. The video includes some **Graphic Content**, as does the story linked below.

17 Win Super Mag and Savage BMAG – First Hunt Report

I hope you enjoy it!!

Eric

Great review. I have been contemplating the 17 WSM. I have a 17 HMR and love it. How is the ammo availability?

Eric. This is very cool! What advantages do you see in this new round over .17hmr?

Thank you again for the quail lamp.

They don't twitch much with that round. Opened em up like a can of tuner by god. The wind push it around much?

Thanks everyone!

Ammo availability right now is poor. People are finding it at some of their local, larger, retailers, but it is being snapped up like everything else. I think with a little bit of time, it will be readily available.

Advantages over the 17HMR are extended range for reaching out further, more energy and flatter shooting at longer ranges. Some folks may move right to a centerfire to achieve that, so it just depends on what you enjoy shooting!

Wind should not be that much of an issue, as the smaller bullet has less surface area to be affected and the bullet is traveling so fast that there is less time to push it around. I see it being less of an issue than a .22 caliber at longer ranges.

I'm heading to AZ for Prairie Dogs and Jack Rabbits, so hopefully I'll have more info soon!

Thanks for the info!

I remember seeing this in a couple gun rags a while back; as much as I love the concept, I kind of wanted to wait to make sure this didn't go the route of the Mach2. It's going to have to be something special to get me off of that .17HMR kick I've been on, wondering if CZ will make a swap-out option for the existing 455's....

Very nice video. I've always wanted a fast rimfire! You just made up my mind on which one now!
