Default M1 10/22 carbine handguard mismatch

I recently purchased an M1 10/22 conversion stock and noted that the handguard seems about an 1/8" short on each side (side to side measurement). From what I've read this seems to be an ongoing problem with these stocks. What would be the best way to rectify this or do you know of someone in the Orange County area that could reduce the side to side measurement on the lower stock?
