Default Just bought a Plainfield M1 Carbine. Have some questions.

For the heck of it, I placed a low bid on an M1 Carbine on Gunbroker, and surprise, I won! 335 bucks.

It's a Plainfield M1 Carbine in excellent condition with an almost new stock and some USGI parts. Unfortunately I don't know much about it other than it's a commercial copy. Any of you guys have info on the Plainfields?

Oh, and get this, it's in Plainfield IL. Is that the connection?

Plainfields are one of the best commercial copies out there! They acept ALL GI parts. I'd ditch the metal handguard and try to find a matching wood handguard.

I had one back in the 70s, worked just fine with GI 30 rd magazines. They were originally made in Plainfield NJ.

plainfield is reguarded as the best commerical mfg of carbines. early ones especially since they actually used usgi parts. I have two. one had an out of battery and even though I straightened out the reciever its pretty much just a wall hanger now. the other one sits in a choat stock with an eotech on it. my answer to the CA legal EBR. plainfields are good shooters. plainfield even made some m2 carbines for a while. iver johnson bought plainfield and produced rifles of the same quality on the same machines plainfield had been using after they ran out of surplus usgi parts.

I don't care what any Gun Snob says, if you like it, it's cool.

I have a Plainfield, I'm fairly pleased with it. I actually like the way the vent handguards look, I don't even remember if mine has one, haven't shot it in like 3 years. I had an Iver Johnson I didn't like as well.

Now ger a Ruger Blackhawk in .30carbine to keep it company!

Hey 69 Mach 1 that sounds like a good deal, and the guy is in Plainfield no less! I've never seen one of those m1 place mats in the pictures, who sells them?

Thank you gentlemen. I had no idea they were that awesome. Great news for me.

The seller says that the GI parts are an IBM trigger housing and an Inland slide. Sorry, I don't know anything about the mats, those are the sellers photos.

I can't believe I got it for that price since Iver Johnson's were going for over $500. I did at least know not to get a Universal.

Again, thanks.
