The only ones I've seen are the wooden bullet 7.62x39 rounds. Their bullets are painted green.

7.63x39 is a new round for those oversized 7.62x29 barrels...

I seem to remember "Green" being "Commie" for tracer, but I have nothing to support this except recovered memory. If the tip is green plastic, it would be a .30 cal Nosler Ballistic tip.

I think you're right. I know commie tracer burns green, at least it used to.

Tracer or otherwise pyrotechnic is what I'm afraid of. BTW, these are not mine! Someone came in the shop I work at and surrendered a 75 round and a 100 round AK drum that had these inside.

I guess you could pull one and look at the bottom of the bullet.

I could take the drums and destroy them for you if you don't have the time to deal with them in the proper manner.

Have you looked under that mountain of Garands you've got? You'll never find it.

Whoever is dumb enough to surrender their prebans should be shot with the rounds loaded inside them... (we'd find out what they were, and it'd make for an interesting test subject at least!)

Does that qualify as finding it?

So, no one knows for sure. The owner doesn't want to just pull one in case it's got some sort of bullet that ignites when exposed to air. I guess there is such a thing. If anyone really knows what kind of bullet this is, I'm still waiting.

About the drums, the shop does have a highcap permit and I neglected to mention all the other mags that were in the same box because, it doesn't make a difference and I'm more interested in finding out what the mags were loaded with.

Yep. That's the US color code.

CSACannoneer,

I believe even possessing them is a serious no no. I'd deactivate them ASAP. Out of curiosity, what do the headstamps say? And are they Chinese drums?

You're right about possession of tracers being a felony. Even if you have just the bullet (not loaded in a case), you can get up to 4 years for each projectile! These are currently at a shop that has a loyt of LE connections and they will be dispossed of correctly.

I'll try to get pictures of them tonight.

Yes, the drums had little "made in china" stickers on them.

Chinese drums load from the front and you have to wind them, another way to identify them. Too bad the tracers can't be decativated by shooting them!

Yep, they are chinese drums then. As for the ammo, maybe we can find a federal agent, that's going to SHOT, to transport them out of state?
